Dr. Cave is extremely curt, irritable, and impatient. In my experience, as well as that of others I know who have been to him, he does not take the time to hear patients' concerns or treat them like customers. Instead, he acts like he is doing you a favor. I have not been satisfied with the service Dr. Cave provides. He has found cavities that, based on subsequent visits to other dentists, were not there, and he has been deficient in cleaning my teeth. To make matters worse, his staff does not stay on top of billing. In one instance, the first bill I received from him was marked "90 days overdue" in red. I think that is the first bill his office actually sent me. Finally, his office is run down.

Administration of Dr. Cave's office is the best I have ever experienced. Billing is painless and getting appointments is straightforward. He is extremely punctual and one never waits. He can be very brusque. He goes into great detail in explaining the various facets of your teeth. He can be somewhat impatient with questions. I think he is a great dentist for someone who doesn't have too many issues with their teeth. For more complicated cases, or people easily intimidated, his personality might not be a great fit.

About Hygienist: I have had different ones and they have all done a thorough job of cleaning my teeth/

I went for the first time 6 months ago. It was a pleasant visit. I hadn't been to the dentist in a while and they weren't mean about it.

Receptionist was the nicest; sadly I can not say the same for him!

About Hygienist: I Completely DISLIKED HIM! He was arrogant & rude. I couldn't TELL he was the dentist b/c of the way he was dressed. He seemed more concerned with being stylish than looking professional. I made an appointment for a general check up but when I got in the office he told me that it was a "problem specific appointment" which is wasn't!. During this half done examination he knocked on my teeth with his tool & told me to tell him if it hurt. When I said 2 of my teeth in particular did hurt when he did that,he rudely told me that I was anticipating it & basically making it up! When I tried to explain what I was feeling,he told me not to explain it & just say yes or no, then he got very irritated because apparently I wasn't giving him the response HE thought I should have! Why in the world would I make it up when my insurance doesnt even cover half of whatever I would need done?! If anything, I would be saying it didn't hurt when it did! I told him I didnt like the way the appt.was going & his nasty, snobbish response was "I couldn't agree more". I walked out before he could finish and I WILL NOT BE RETURNING! I have never had such a horrible experience with any type of doctor in my life! I was angry & annoyed after that encounter. My feathers are not easily ruffled...I am usually a tough cookie! But that just gives you an idea of how horrible he is!"

I've been very satisfied with Dr. Cave for my routine cleaning and exams. His office is no-frills, but it is clean, modern, and comfortable. Its also centrally located downtown, and very easy to get to from Farragut North/West. Combined with his extremely nice, flexible, and competent office staff, its been easy to schedule appointments with Dr. Cave during my lunch hour at work. Dr. Cave also accepts lots of insurance plans, and the process was completely hassle-free. As for the cleaning itself, Dr. Cave and his staff are extremely competent and thorough. During the cleaning, I was particularly impressed with their use of an ultrasonic scaler to clean the gumline, as it was far more comfortable than the standard scaler that the other dentists I know of use. The X-Ray process is a little more unpleasant than I remember, but that was my only issue. As for Dr. Cave himself, I find him to be very competent, straightforward, and thorough in explaining his findings. I'd have to disagree with some of the commenters who found him to be arrogant. Dr. Cave does have a very direct way of speaking, and he has a particularly flat emotional affect, but I think it has more to do with his Canadian-ness than any personality defect.

I went for several visits and noticed he was somewhat rude and condescending just like everyone else here has mentioned. I wrote it off at first as just a coincidence but on the fourth or fifth visit I lost patience. He was rude almost to the point of obnoxious. Before I left I told him how I felt and he responded like I was the only person to ever tell him that which is obviously false according to these reviews. He also got pretty confused with my records. He almost operated on the wrong side of my mouth and told me I had a root filled and was all set when that was definitely not the case. I think his ego sometimes overpowers his professional approach. I've decided after about a year not to go back.

I think Dr. Cave is a wonderful dentist. He takes his time, he's friendly and welcomes everyone.

He can be demeaning and quite short with his patients. His staff are the nicest women on the planet, but he has a tendency to lecture, which I'm not sure that he realizes his tone is so high-handed or if he is merely that arrogant. I think some people go to the dentist looking for a lecture, but it is not worth my time. Also, he appears to one of those cavity-happy dentist. I went for a second-opinion and the dentist told me that the "five cavities" were actually 2.

Truly a professional with experience and up-to-date knowledge. Efficient visits and pleasant staff. Would benefit from less turn-over amamong the hygenists, but all have been caring and attentive.
