Cannot get in touch with him during an after hours emergency. Called the office when it was open and he did not have think the issue was a problem. This has been a terrible experience.

About Front Desk: they seemed to care but after they talked to the doctor they changed to reflect the attitude of the doctor

My Experience: Oral Surgery

I know this doctor: several years

This is an untrustworthy provider. He has some delusions about what he is doing and who he is. He has sued many, many patients. Why don't they want to pay??? His work is shoddy and his attitude is awful. He is a greedy, spiteful person.

It is an honor and privilege to serve our patients. Drug seekers, argumentative, mean spirited and uninformed people occasionally visit our office. Yet over 90% of our patients are kind, respectful and cooperative. It is hurtful to read a bad review. Sincere apologies to those we have offended. Yet, we continually resolve to help those we can help and continue to pray for all of us, especially the dispirited.

Dr. Shoemaker is by far the best dentist I have ever had the pleasure of being treated by. I was able to get in the same day, as I was in pain, and even start treatment that day. If you are in pain and want in that same day, no matter the time, they will work you in. I was seen late in the afternoon around 6p.m. and asked the young lady at the front, "what time do you go home?" She replied, "we don't have a set time. We leave when all of our patients have been treated." The staff exceeded my expectations. The ladies at the front helped me with my financial needs and answered each and every question I had. They made me feel at ease. I was tense upon arrival. The assistants were so knowedgable and caring. Dr. Shoemaker has a personality like no other. He has a wonderful sense of humor and takes all the apprehension away from the patient. The treatment itself took no longer than 30 minutes, and I was out of pain. The whole staff genuinely care about their patients; this is apparent. The office building itself is breathtaking, from the landscaping to the woodwork, floors, furniture, reception area, and treatment rooms. It's just a relaxing atmosphere. I would highly recomend Dr. Shoemaker to anyone. He IS the best.

Dr. Shoemaker, in my opinion, is not stable. I was referred to him by my dentist to have a piece of metal removed from inside my molar that was broken off during a root canal. Payment arrangements were made in advance for him to be paid by my dentist. When the work was almost completed, I asked Dr. Shoemaker if he was able to get all of the metal and he became very irate. I did not understand what happened, he just snapped. He yelled at me, told me he was the expert, and told me that I was not going to come in his office and "mess" with him. He told me I was disrespectful and even ungrateful, because my dentist had not paid him for the work he had done. I told him I had nothing to do with payment arrangements made between him and my dentist. He yelled at me again "there you go with that disrespectful mouth." I had my young niece with me and she was terribly frightened. I told him to seal my tooth and let me out of his office. I was actually frightened he was going to do something to hurt me and my niece was so scared, I had to get her out of there. He berated me the entire time he sealed my tooth. I'm complaining to the TN State Board and I do not recommend this dentist to anyone. He is narcissistic, cruel, and unstable.

I had never had to see an Endodontist before so was worried and somewhat filled with anxiety when I first went. I've just completed my 3rd visit in 2 months to have 2 different root canals and all I can say is that all my fears and worries completely disappeared after my first visit. My treatment was not without pain and some complications but none that wasn't normal in certain patients. He is very good about answering questions and seems to anticipate any possible problems with the prescriptions he sends you home with. His front of office staff are amazing as well ... incredibly caring, efficient, and helpful.

I have had several root canals so when I went to Dr. Shoemaker, I never dreamed I would end up losing my tooth because he was unwilling to tell the truth about what had happened. I had a root canl & kept having pain. Dr. S said tooth beside 1st tooth needed root canal so we did one. Still hurting. Dr. S. said extra canal. still hurting. Dr. S. said tooth cracked...will pull at no charge. Went to oral surgeon & had tooth pulled. NO CRACK! Root canal had gone through tip of tooth! that was why it was hurting. then Dr. S drilled a hole into my gum and put root canal filling into a nonexistent "4th canal". My tooth could have been saved if Dr. S had just admitted that procedure had gone through tip of tooth. cost me $3000 to fix tooth that shouldn't have been lost. I would never recommend Dr. Shoemaker to anyone!!!!! I know that going through tip is a complication that can occur...if he had just admitted that was what had happened, I would still have my tooth.

This was the most 'uneventful' visit to a doctor's office! That's the best compliment anyone could give! The ladies at the front desk were so friendly. I was in so much pain and had never had a 'root canal' done, so I didn't know what to expect (late on a Friday afternoon. Dr. Shoemaker and his staff were so gentle, kind and professional. I will never fear going if I need another RC. BC Germany

I am a dental hygienist in Florida and I first met Dr. Shoemaker about 30 years ago while I was a student at UT. He was my first employer in the dental field and I still remember what a wonderful dentist he was. There are so many average dentists out there. I'm glad I was lucky enough to start my career with a fantastic one!

I have always been TERRIFIED of the dentist!! I had not even had a cavity in over 25 years and then needed THREE root canals. Dr. Shoemaker was WONDERFUL!! If you can have a pain free root canal I had one!! He was very understanding to my fears and has cured me of all of my dentist phobia!! Would recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat!!
