Many thanks to Dr. Murray's original reviewer. After reading the review, I contacted Dr. Murray--and I'm thrilled that I did. Below, a quick contrast between unnamed perio #1 (who btw has a good rating on this site) and the brilliant Dr. Murray (#2):
1: arrogant; 2: calm and cheery
1: "easy listening"; 2: Sirius satellite classical
1: very expensive; 2: reasonably priced
1: fakely friendly; 2: warm and personable
1: simultaneously vague and pushy; 2: explains everything clearly, answers all questions logically, no pressure
1: stiff and uncomfortable; 2: relaxed, calm, and centered
1: pull it out; 2: save it
1: somewhat harsh, a bit hurried; 2: totally gentle, seems to have all the time in the world
1: condescension; 2: clarity, directness
Q: How does #1 stay in business?
A: Because #1's traits are exactly what people expect from a periodontist.
Kudos also to Dr. Murray's superb front-desk person, Roni.
Moral: Shop around. You don't need to stick with someone you don't like. Periodontal work is expensive, even at reasonable rates. Why spend it--and your time--with someone you're not completely comfortable and happy with? Instead, find someone you like and trust. It's worth the effort.

My first periodontal experience was with Dr. Murray. I was referred to her by my friend, who was actually a patient of hers for over five years and had done some surgery with her. The reason I went to Dr. Murray is because my friend told me how relaxing it is to have her work on your gums. Hard to believe right? Well it's true. Dr. Murray is meticulous, gentle, has a conservative approach, which is so important in this field. She does great work and that is because she really cares about her patients. Moreover, she loves what she does and is a perfectionist at it- this- coupled with her experience- will give you excellent results. She is probably one of the best periodontist in NYC!!!!!! PS I have not done implants with her but noticed many patients there have done implants with her- based on that I would venture to say she's quite good at it!!!!!!
