I met him years ago when i first moved to San Diego in 1973. Dr Velks demeanor is very relaxed and thus makes you feel at ease. He does love music and likes to wistle while he works . in all the years with him, I have never felt any pain with any proceedure. also know that, Dr. Velk will not preform any procedures unless needed. he is not in this buisiness to line his pockets. I have tried many other dentists over the years because they were part of my hmo dental plan but if I went according to their advice, i would not only be broke but mostlikely be wearing dentures. lol hmo dentist try to upsale. they told me i needed a ton of unnecessary procedures that are not even covered by my hmo.that's how they make $$$ .I prefer to pay out of pocket and know that my best interest is being considered. I still have all the original dental work from dr. Velk and have recommended him to family and coworkers alike. He is not more expensive than other dentist and he does take insurance, just not hmo. He has a great following and his staff are for the most part all still the originals as well. that should tell you something. if you need a dentist, give him a try , once you do, you will not go back. THE costs are Comparable to others.
About Hygienist: I love April. She is very kind like her father and you never feel any discomfort. in the past when i have had my teeth cleaned by other dental offices, my teeth and gums would hurt for days. With April , you walk out with clean teeth and your mouth feels normal.

I have been going to Dr. Velk for over 10 years! I went to a few others in the area, but went back to his office because I felt more comfortable w/ him and his staff!
