What I look for in a dentist is basically someone good at what he does and explains what he's going to do without rushing or condescending. (Note to my last dentist: just because i don't have a Dr in front of my name doesn't make me an idiot!) Dr. Loflin definitely passed these tests. He's an easygoing guy in his mid to late 30s who has a real command of his chosen expertise. He'll break down what's going on with your teeth and the options for dealing with it. (In my case I have a baby tooth with crown that will need to be replaced with an implant at some point; however he didn't push me to get it done any sooner than necessary.) You can tell he's learned from his years of experience in the field. I've been there twice for cleaning and x-rays and will continue.

About Hygienist: Luz was very helpful and gentle... great bedside manner.

They have an amazing dental plan if you don't have insurance. Recently moved, dentistry seemed to cost about double what I was used to in Northern Calif. Their dental plan seemed like the only way I could imagine getting my dentistry needs met. Check it out. http://www.citidentalplans.com/ Clarence Loflin is the coolest guy. He seems genuinely inspired by the work he does. He was the first dentist I actually looked forward to the appointments. Amazing! But I stopped going to him. He filled a cavity on a molar. I voiced that my tongue could feel a small hole or pit that wasn't there before. He tried fixing that but said everything looked fine. On my next visit (4 months later) there was a new cavity in the same place, right next to that new filling. I have pretty good oral hygiene at this point. I've never had a cavity show up on new work so fast. Either he didn't get all the decay out, or the margin on the filling was bad (maybe what my tongue felt) and created a hard to clean pocket for cavities. Either way, I lost faith. I would still recommend him though. Might have been a fluke for me. All the other aspects of his work were great and my other filling still seems fine.

About Hygienist: I have incredibly delicate gums. (I get cleanings every 3 months and I expect some bleeding every time because my gums are so delicate). The first hygienists I had for a cleaning drew no blood. So gentle -- I have never had that happen and was totally amazed. However, a few weeks down the road I started feeling gum irritations that I normally don't feel for 3 months after a cleaning. So I made another appointment at 2 months, requested a different hygienist. Maybe it was because of my complaint, but she was exceedingly thorough. I bled lots, then I was sore for days after that -- too hard. I feel like Goldilocks recounting this.
