Two years ago I asked our former dentist, Dr. Adam Fusco, if he knew who could take good care of my wife's dental implants. After stating he regularly saw dental implant patients and that we could get no better care anywhere else, my wife and I were convinced by his statement of competence to allow Dr. Fusco to take care of her dental implants! The first two visits we had problems with her lower implant partial. We had a conversation about the problems. At that time I stated to him whatever he had to do, and whatever it cost, I wanted it fixed. Two years later and still having problems, we had another conversation about the problems and Dr. Fusco stated he was doing the best he could do with the limited knowledge he had. We were shocked and found this confusing, since he originally stated that this is what he regularly did and alluded to the fact that he was the best at it! "No better care anywhere else" is what he told us! The next morning I received a call from Dr. Fusco stating that he refused to treat my wife anymore. He did not offer any alternatives or referrals, he simply abandoned her as a patient! This was very unprofessional and probably illegal. According to the American Medical Association, and other legal cases, patient abandonment is defined as: Abandonment is the termination of the professional relationship between the physician and patient at an unreasonable time or without affording the patient the opportunity to procure an equally qualified replacement. Hill v. Medlantic Health Care Group, 933 A.2d 314 (D.C. 2007). If you are seeking a professional dentist that delivers on his promises both efficiently and competently, this is not the one you want to see!!!!
