I went to Dr. Austin in 2000/2001 after having to lower root canals. She was just supposed to fit and place the crowns. During my visits I was told that as long as I came in for regular cleanings, she would repair/replace the crowns if they ever came out/loose. Two years later within months of each other the crowns came out. Mind you, I have had 4 other root canals and crowns done by different dentists during the 1990's, it's 2012 and none of those crowns have ever come out or needed replacement. I would never go back to her office. Crowns are expensive and a patient shouldn't be guaranteed one service if they agree to another service.

During my consultation I was given a bill of what my co-payments would be. Dr. Austin said that I should do ALL of the work before the end of 2011 to get my full dental benefits.
My second visit was bonding (composite) on my bottom teeth to give the appearance of more alignment. I spent 5 hours there and then my tooth chipped 2 hours after I left!! Dr. Austin was too booked and traveling that weekend to fix my tooth.
I waited for the following week where she was scheduled to do my crown. When I left the office 4 HOURS later my temporary filling fell out!!! She was too busy to see me to put back the temporary. My next visit was to put in the actual crown. I came into the city and was waiting for the office to open to find out that my appointment was moved but NEVER communicated to me on top of that they didn't even have my crown from the lab!!
I received a bill for $650 in addition to the $1600+ I paid out of pocket. Her office stated that the person who was responsible for checking my insurance balance was no longer with the company. I contacted the office for over 1 month and asked for Dr. Austin to call me back repeatedly ... SHE NEVER DID. I was told my bill would go to a collection agency.
WARNING!
About Hygienist: Natalia was a wonderful hygienist, but unfortunately I will NEVER go to that office again!!

I decided to visit Dr. Austin's office based on her rave reviews and exprience in dentistry. My first experience visiting Dr. Austin was enjoyable and I received a satisfactory filling. However, when I returned for my second visit, she apparently was in a rush that evening and her services as a result were shoddy.
I experienced pain and discomfort and even received a burn mark on my face from her sloppy work. Now, as I try to address the problem with her, she's "too busy" to take my phone calls or return my emails. I am very disappointed with the services she provided and what adds insult to injury is the fact that she won't take responsibility for her actions.
To ensure that I was giving the benefit of the doubt in assessing the services she provided, I went to another dentist for a second opinion and they confirmed that the work performed was substandard.
Overall, Dr. Austin may be a good dentist, but my experience proved otherwise to me.

I have been going to Dr. Austin for over 4 years now. The amenities in her office include DVDs and a massage chair. It's so unlike many of the dentist offices I've visited. It's also great that Dr. A is the only dentist in the office - the office is small, quiet and comfortable. I often see no other patients while I'm there. Dr. A is a cautious dentist and she always fits me in if I'm having a particular problem and calls you herself with follow up. A couple of negatives: her cost is high - but considering the 57th St. location, I'm not surprised. Also, the billing practices & calculations in the office are confusing and I've had to follow up with double billing a couple of times. Though I know it's 2007, I do wish that Dr. A did her own cleanings as opposed to a dental hygienist.

Dr. Austin and her VIP SMILES Staff is great. The patients are able to watch dvds or listen to music (of your choice! ) I have been a faithful patient and will continue to refer my family and friends.
