It had been years since I had visited a dentist, when I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Van Wicklen. I was nervous, but the experience couldnt have been better. Both professional and gentle, he put me at ease while being totally thorough. The office is modern and comfortable. His staff is friendly, upbeat, helpful, and efficient. They really seem to work as a team.
I went in for a regular cleaning and then to have some fillings done, but I know that they offer all kinds of other services family dentistry, orthodontic services, oral surgery, prosthetics, cosmetic services, whitening services (Im saving up). I would recommend the South Austin Dentist, Dr. Van Wicklen to everyone in the Austin area.
About Hygienist: When I make an appointment they always ask if I have a preference as to the hygienist, but I am normally booking my appointment at the last minute and am happy to just get in for a cleaning. I have had great experiences with each and every hygienist (I have been seeing Dr. Van Wicklen for years now) who has cleaned my teeth. They all seem really thorough and professional while being sweet and conversational. And they always remember me!

Dr. Van Wicklen has been my dentist for several years. He treats me with kid gloves as I am a white knuckler when it comes to being in a dental chair. He has done two crowns, 1 root canal, a couple of fillings and general check-ups. His chair-side manner is always superb. His front desk is always very helpful. Billing and insurance help are great, too. I would highly recommend Dr. Van Wicklen and his staff!!
About Hygienist: My hygienist is Sheryl. She is wonderful. Extremely gentle and very thorough. I always feel wonderful following my teeth being cleaned. She is great!

Dr Van Wicklen is tops in our book -- my husband is skittish about Dentists but he never hesitates to see Dr. Van Wicklen - he is a guy's guy but at the same time, exudes a calm professionalism that puts you at ease. He is great at what he does - we both have had crown work done with no problems. He alerts you to potential problems down the road and consistently checks on those areas at every visit to ensure that no problem has come up. He and his staff are very easy to talk to and he has TVs aimed at the chair so you're not bored when stuck there waiting for the xrays or teeth impressions to develop/dry. Check in/out is easy and fast. Appointments are available relatively soon for regular visits and the few times we've had tooth pain, we were seen same day.

I love going to Dr. Van Wicklen, but he is more expensive than my dental plan allows. So, I end up paying the difference. The office and staff are great.

PAINLESS, WONDERFUL IN EVERY WAY EXCEPT NEW HYGIENIST IS INCOMPETENT, NOT UP TO PAR FOR THIS GROUP OF PEOPLE. CAUSED ME TO HAVE TO RETURN TO HAVE CROWN REDONE. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. NOT AT ALL OF THE CALIBER OF THE OTHER EMPLOYEES. MAKES ME QUESTION WHY DR. WOULD NOT NOTICE INFERIOR SKILLS OF THIS NEW EMPLOYEE. I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO ASK TO NOT BE SCHEDULED WITH HER AND THIS IS UNCOMFORTABLE. BUT I NOW REQUEST A SPECIFIC HYGIENIST, MAKE IT KNOWN WHEN I SCHEDULE APPT. THAT I DO NOT WANT THAT PERSON WORKING ON ME. HAS TAINTED THE OVERALL CONFIDENCE IN THE DENTIST FOR ME. USED TO BE 100% CONFIDENT IN DR. AND HIS EMPLOYEES. NOW THERE IS AN EXCEPTION TO THAT.

This guy was great. He was really professional and gave lots of options... made me feel comfortable. The cost wasn't too bad at all being in college.
