Even though he came recommended by adults, he is definately NOT a childrens' dentist! It is my ex's insurance, and he chose this dentist on the dental HMO plan, because he liked him. However, it is very apparent that Dr. Arakelian does not desire kids in his office, nor does he make accomodations in his schedule for their appointments. Not only do they refuse to make appoitments for after school (my son rides a bus to/from a special ed school/program), but, they were closed for half of August, when kids are usually out of school and more available. There are a few kids magazines in the waiting room, and a TV, but not cartoons or kids shows. He is always rough with my son, and tells him to "toughen up" and "come on, it's not that bad, it could be worse" when he hurts him. What the dentist perceives as my son being a wimp, is actually a side of his autism, which the dentist has no concern about. The sensitivities of mint toothpaste and antiseptic mouthwash sting and are very disturbing, but, this dentist cannot be bothered with that, as they have a "everybody will conform" feeling. When the insurance allows, we will be changing providers.
