I have had two connective tissue gum graft procedures within the last year or so. My teeth are in generally good conditon except for some exposed roots due to heavy gum recession. I was told that nowadays it is surgically possible to "rebuild" the gum tissue to enhance the looks and longevity of the tooth and underlying bone structure. The whole idea sounded rather painful, and downright frightening. My primary dentist told me not to worry and referred me to Dr. Henshaw.
During my consultation Dr. Henshaw explained he utilizes a newer approach based on microscopic surgery.
He performs the surgery using a microscope which allows him to be as minimally invasive as possible. The result is less swelling, faster recovery and a cosmetic effect that I wasn't expecting. My gums have been restored and it is undectable. I was told with proper care, the grafts should last the rest of my natural life.
Dr. Henshaw is obviously a skilled surgeon and aritst but he must have the cooperation of the patient. There are restrictions on what you can do and what you can eat for a limited period of time. Pain was never an issue with me, and throughout the whole experience I felt I was being treated with care and compassion.
