In the spring of 2006, Dr. Pedersen (who is not my regular dentist) extracted two wisdom teeth. While the upper tooth was removed with incident, the lower tooth was badly impacted, and should have been surgically removed. I was not adequately sedated and was actually crying out in pain as he attempted to remove the tooth. After what felt like hours in the chair, he extracted the tooth. When I asked if he got it all, he assured me that he had.
I returned to the office two days later to see his associate (my regular dentist). I was badly swollen and still in tremendous pain. The associate took one look at me and promptly sent me to an oral surgeon, who removed the broken root of the tooth, left behind by Dr. Pedersen. Two years later I still live with residual nerve damage from this botch procedure.
While I cannot speak to Dr. Pedersen's skills beyond this experience, I feel he should have known better than to attempt a procedure he was not adequately equipped to perform in his office.
