This Dentist leases a piece of real estate that is obscenely expensive, so she has a huge nut to cover. Because of this, she makes decisions based on how much money she is going to make, and not on whether you need something done or not. She makes recommendations for "procedures" that require you to go somewhere else, and she gets kickbacks/referral fees for this. All you have to do is listen to her chatter with all the patients in the room. She's selling the same hot mess to everyone. She doesn't coordinate your care with your other dental providers. She demanded that I surgically remove a tooth that I recently had spent $hundreds on a new porcelain crown! This was a perfectly good tooth, healthy and in line. She just wanted it out of her way, to make her job easier - less teeth to move. She drags out the process and if you let her she'll turn a six month ortho job into well beyond 2 years because she will scrape hundreds more a month out of you for treatment beyond a regular expected course. She puts to much time between visits so that your set-up gets out of whack and she can charge you more. She's playing every fool that walks through the door, but once you are invested in the process you don't want to be sabotaged.

I received very poor services from Dr. Merz for a very simple ortho issue.
About Front Desk: she doesn't have a front desk staff on regular basis, her only dental assistant who does most of the work that she is supposed to do also provide front desk duties. Once in a while for a few weeks she would hire temporary front desk staff.

I had my braces when I was 10 years old back in 1999, it is now 2011 and my teeth are still prefectly straight. I have met people recently who stated that they have had braces before (with a diff orthodontist) and I cant tell because their teeth look so messed up. Dr. Merz is amazing. I know reside in Texas and work in an ortho office. A few of my patients moved to southern CA so I refer them to her office. She is great and gave me the confidence I have today. I cannot stop smiling because my teeth are so prefect!

Dr. Merz is a great orthodontist! My wife, Ariane, got her braces here and it took about 2 years. We had the Damon braces and they were great! I highly recommend Dr. Merz and I highly recommend the Damon braces too.
The staff here is great too. I love Dr. Merz's office in Del Mar. They also have another office that was very convienent off of Govenor Drive (Only on Mondays though). The drive to Del Mar was never that bad. I don't have any regrets gettting my wife her braces here. Dr. Merz always went out of her way if we had any problems and she was great with managing the appointments. She did a great job! Very pleased with the final results!

She is truly amazing. I have 2 children. One who just got braces off one who just got them on. The older has the most beautiful smile now. People always comment on how perfect his teeth are. All thanks to Dr. Merz. My other son was worried about the braces being visible. She placed them just so they are barely visible when he smiles. Her staff is friendly and very competent. Furthermore, they are very accomodating to the working parent. I am so thankful I found Dr. Merz

My son has been in treatment for 18 months with Dr. Merz and I can honestly say that I would have no hesitation's to send my other family and friends to her. She spent One whole hour with us at the new patient exam and always gives undevided attention to my son at every appointment! My daughter is so excited to get her braces with Dr. Merz next month! She has TV's on all the ceilings and games for the kids and siblings while waiting. She and her staff always have a smile when I arrive and Dr. Merz keeps me well informed of what she did at my son's appointment every time. I compaired her fee's to several other Orthodontists in the area and they were very reasonable for the quality of care that she provides...( which is 5 star quality ).
Dr. Merz and her staff have the knowledge and the passion to create a warm and pleasant experience for every person that walks through the door. I am so excited to see the ending results for my son soon and start my next child in her treatment!

Del Mar office is modern and impressive, other office on Genessee is rather dated though. Satisfied with treatment results for the most part, however office staff turnover seemed excessive and assistants had varying degrees of apparent competency. Despite the large number of adult patients Dr. Merz appears to treat, I found her bedside manner to be lacking and frequently condescending -- perhaps better suited towards working with the children she deals with. As adults we often have different needs in terms of information, expectations, and treatment updates.

Dr. Merz can achieve what nobody else can in terms of aesthetics! She TRULY cares, and works wonders as far as final results. Dr. Merz is well worth my time and investment!
