DO NOT take your children to this practice. My 4yo was physically held down for an exam n cleaning by an assistant lying in him and holding his arms at his side. He cried n screamed the entire time. Not once did this dr speak to my child or try to calm my child. They began yelling at my child. They stated bc of my child's behavior he would never be able to get dental work done in an office he would have to be sedated at the hospital for any cleaning. He was scared! I grabbed my child and ran out as fast as I could. This place is awful! Never go here, ever.

DO NOT TAKE YOUNG KIDS HERE!! Let's just start at the beginning... I took my daughter to *my* dentist for her first cleaning where I found out she had two cavities. They told me I should take her to a pediatric dentist to have the work done. I was reluctant to take my 3 year old daughter to Dr. Derenzo based on the reviews but sadly, this was the only pediatric dentist in Delaware that my insurance accepted. I figured I would make my own assesment before going to Aston, PA (which was the next closest in my network). So I made the call. The first time I called I was put on hold and while I was holding, someone picked up and accidently hung up the phone. So I called back. When I said I was just holding and got disconnected the girl told me I hung up on them. I told them I didn't and she said that I did. (Way to argue with a new patient - First Strike) So I brought my daughter in for the visit. I knew she had two cavities so they needed to take X-rays. The woman who did her x-ray was not very impressive. She SAID the right things but she was so monotone and insincere. She was so obviously annoyed that my 3 year old daughter wasn't staying still. She had zero skills on how to get a toddler to cooperate. Dr. Derenzo came in the room when the x-rays were finished. He was not personable at all. I think he said maybe 3 words to my daughter. He just told me she had two and a half cavities and that they would try to do them in office with nitrous oxide since she had a hard time keeping still in the seat. The lady who did the x-ray promised my daughter stickers which she did not get. I left there feeling extremely uneasy. I told my daughter we would need to come back to the dentist for her cavity. She asked if we could go to the other dentist. I told her we couldn't and she got upset and said she didn't like the new dentist. (Neither did I sweetheart - Strike Two.) So the time is here! Cavity Fill Day! We pull up to Dr. Derenzo's office and right away my daughter says "NOOOO MOMMY! NOT THIS DENTIST!!!" Great - Can't wait to start this. I do my best to be upbeat and assure her that this dentist is great and nothing will hurt. We get to the back and the dental assistant puts the nitrous oxide mask on my daughters face. No warning. No coaxing. Just puts it on her face and walks away. My daughter freaked out and took it off. The lady just stood there looking at my daughter and looking at me like there was something wrong with my daughter. SHE IS 3 YEARS OLD! YOU JUST PUT A FOREIGN OBJECT ON HER FACE WITH NO WARNING! Moron! So I had to get up and coax my daughter and convince her to keep it on. Just then Dr. Derenzo comes in and they lay the chair back. My daughter covered her mouth. She was freaked out by this point. They both had the most annoyed looks on their faces. Neither one of them tried at all to calm her down and get her to open her mouth. Instead the assistant held my daughters face while Dr. Derenzo pried her mouth open with his metal tool!!! I sat there in horror. It took every ounce of me to not freak out and snatch my daughter out of the chair. THEY DIDN'T EVEN TRY TO GET HER TO OPEN HER MOUTH! They just forced it open!!!!! She was so upset. I was so upset. When he was done looking in her mouth my daughter was crying and jumped off the chair and ran to me. Dr. Derenzo said our next step is to give her a shot in her butt to sedate her and that she would have to be strapped down. Sorry dude. This was Strike Three. I left there, put my glasses on and quietly cried the whole way home. I cannot believe that this place is a pediatric practice. They have ZERO skills with young children. Please - do yourself a favor and do not take your children there.

Dr. Derenzo is the worst pediatric dentist in the state of delaware. he has left my children with a great fear of the dentist. Dr. Derenzo abused my son both physically and mentally. this man smacked my childs front teeth with a metal drill over and over in attempt to make my child open his mouth wider! he also shoved my son in the dental chair and screamed at him so loud that i heard it from the waiting room. i am warning all parents to steer clear of this man, because your children will be ruined for life like mine is
