The Good: I had four minor fillings done and a cleaning. I found Dr Hook to be eccentric but friendly. His experience level is very high and he doesn't attempt to up sell his dentistry and instead treats the problems that need attention. One of the fillings was very painful for several weeks after the work but the rest were fine. The Bad: The dental environment seemed unclean and disorganized. Worse still, I found the billing practices there to be somewhat informal and confusing! When I politely called to inquire about the statement I received the office staff was automatically rude, defensive and disorganized- blaming my insurance company (misnamed by the office manager) for slow processing etc. I suspect they assume a very defensive posture toward any sort of billing inquiry as result of a high volume of billing misunderstandings -perhaps due to billing errors?

I had a painful, excruciating experience with Stephen Hook. A small cavity fill took over two hours, having to do the procedure twice because of an error on his part. He cursed regularly, apologized during the entire experience and agreed with me when I said angrily that I was never returning to his office. Ridiculous. I am 38 years old and have had four dentists in my lifetime and have never been treated so amateurishly.

Dr. Hook knows exactly what he is doing. He stayed open extra late for me and was able to easily identify the problems I had. I am very satisfied with his work. I feel very comfortable going to him, not only because he has been a dentist for 25 years (I think), but he's also a professor at USC dental.

Dr. Hook has been my dentist for over 20 years! He is very good, caring, and understanding. If you have fears of pain, or other dental concerns, he will work with you so that you are comfortable, and so he can accomplish your dental needs. His staff is terrific. I went through many years of extreme pain because of TMJ, a jaw problem. An orthodontist is the doctor that I had to work with to correct the problem and eventually had reconstructive jaw surgery. I would not have made it through those many years of pain and difficult treatment without the encouragement and support of Dr. Hook. Once the orthodonist has completed his work in correcting the TMJ, Dr. Hook is very knowledgable in any maintenance needed to keep the jaw functioning properly, and to handle any flair ups that might occur. I have had many crowns, and he has done an excellent job in matching the color. Because of my jaw problems, it is very difficult to keep my mouth open as long as is needed for crown work. Most patients can complete the work in two sessions. Knowing that is difficult for me, he is very understanding and breaks my appointments down to several manageable time periods to avoid the stress on my jaw. I highly recommend Dr. Hook.
