my parents use to take me to dr baker as a kid. they would not let my mom in the same room. I remember dr baker and his assistant would speak in another language while they worked on my fillings, disrespectful. I also remember him saying if I didn't stop squirming he would shock me or give my a shot. I'm 22 years old and I still remember his horrible customer service. do not I repeat do not take your children here.

My husband & I equate Dr. Bruce Baker to a Holocaust dentist. He was absolutely the WORST!!! My son, who at the time, was 3, went in for a simple "sugarbug". I went with him into the room & was assured that this would be a very simple procedure & that if needed, they would provide him with whatever type of gas needed to relax him. He came into the room immediately after the mask was placed on his face & without applying any type of numbing gel before the injection, he slammed a needle into my sons mouth with alarming speed & force. He was SCREAMING. And...without any delay, began to drill. He was in obvious pain & distress. When I tried to console him, Dr. Torture began yelling at me. I told him to stop & that we were done. Unfortunately, the damage was done, & he just as quickly slammed a Mercury filling into his mouth. I was distraught for days & my son was in shock. Four years later, & my son is scared to death of the dentist. He has to have "gas" for everything or he has an anxiety attack. This Friday, he is having that same tooth repaired because of the damage done as a result. If you want your child to be tortured, Dr. Bruce Baker is your man. He should have his license revoked!!!!!!!

Not suited to work on children of any age! (Please read this entire review and others) We chose Dr. Bruce Baker because he was a pediatric dentist and felt he would better meet the needs of young children over a dentist who mainly works with adults. However, we should have done our homework and researched him prior to bringing our kids in for care and we would have seen the many consistent, negative reviews regarding his poor “chair-side manner.” He demonstrated very little patience with both my kids barking off demands like “sit still, open your mouth, stay open, WIDER!!” Ironically, he treats his staff with very much the same dictator like demeanor. You never hear a please or thank you from him, just a list of orders and you better comply. On this particular visit, my 14 year old son was due for 6 sealants and a small cavity to be filled. I brought him in and was told it would take 45 minutes to complete the appointment and that I would be called when he was finished. To my surprise, 19 minutes later, I was called and told to come pick him up! I was shocked that that amount of work could be done that quickly so I asked the receptionist if I could meet with Dr. Baker when I arrived to discuss his work. Upon my arrival, we were ushered back to a room and Dr. Baker immediately went on the defensive with me and did not like any of my questions. I told him I worked as a dental assistant for several years and helped in the application of sealants and to be done well, one needs at least 3-5 minutes per tooth from start to finish. He then informed me that he did 8, not 6 as the receptionist told me upon check in, but 8 sealants and a cavity in under 20 minutes!!!! Now unless he has superhuman powers, I was left wondering if they were done as thoroughly as they could have been as that equates to less than 2 minutes per tooth and about 4 minutes for the cavity filling from start to finish as well (including the numbing injection!) He quickly informed me that if I didn’t trust him, I should leave and not come back again! So, I took my son, asked for the medical records for both my kids and told them we would not be returning. The front desk staff didn’t even flinch! No questions asked like why might you be leaving, nothing! So, I’m led to believe, it’s not an uncommon occurrence there. Please, please, as a former dental assistant who knows a bit about dental procedures, do your research and choose wisely for your child. There are many pediatric dentists out there and they are NOT all equal! Dr. Baker should not be working with children as he has little tolerance for them or their parents. In addition, he should realize that parents have every right to ask questions regarding their children’s medical care and instead of going on the defensive, he should strive to answer their questions instead of replying with threats that if you’re not happy, you should just leave!

He can't work with kids. Can't deal with any stressful situation. Caused so much pain to my child. He's not allowed parents to be in the room during the treatment. Not recommend him at all. Really, not professional. Dory

We had a decent experience with our son's dental work last year but a very disappointing with with our young daughter. They told us she needed 4 baby crowns and root canals and also a bridge even though she is only 5 yrs old. We decided to get second opinions and both other dentists said she only had 2 cavities that could be filled with composite. Needless to say we did not go back to Dr. Baker's office and we never will again. Just make sure your child needs the work before you put them through that pain for nothing! My daughter would have been traumatized for life!

BEWARE OF DR BAKER!!! If you do not want your kids lips to be TORN APART while drilling!! I request all parents to NOT go this dentist if you want to do anything other than cleaning for your kids teeth. We took our son to Dr Baker after reading all the REVIEWS. Initial visit was ok but after the first visit when he wanted to actually work on my son's teeth he started yelling at him when he WAS NOT READY TO START. when I got home after a cavity filling I saw his lips had 2 cuts longer than 2 cm in length. We called the droctor to let him know about it and DR BAKER said he bit on his lips and he has seen this before it WAS NOT HIS FAULT. I have never seen a dentist cut a kids lips so bad. My son was in terrible pain and his lips were swollen for 3 days. I would NOT recommend DR Baker to any KIDS. If you want your kids to have a SMILE please DO NOT DO NOT GO TO DR BAKER. I am writing this as I do not want innocent parents like us to go through what we did. HE SHOULD BE CALLED DR BUTLER AND NOT DR BAKER. HE is EXTREMELY SHORT TEMEPERED AND I have no idea why he is a kids dentist. Please save your kids from the torture we faced and do not go to DR BAKER!!!

Took two of my children for cleanings and once for a filling. They have a system to make appointments online, but it is useless. I would schedule an appointment online. Then the day before they sent an email saying that they couldn't do the appointment. I was asked to call or send an email to re-schedule. The email bounced. When I called, I got extreme attitude that I somehow screwed up and that I would need to wait another 3 weeks for an appointment. So what is the point of making an online appointment? I wouldn't think much if that only happened once, but something similar happened all 4 times I made appointments. If they were the slightest bit apologetic I might not have taken my business elsewhere. Dr. Baker is fine. Nothing great. Nothing bad. Just not worth putting up with his staff or front office procedures for it. Find someone else.

One word: AMAZING!!!! I first took my 22 month old son who had a case of bottle rot to a Dr.Nguyen in La Mesa who insisted, insisted that the only way we could proceed was to pull my son's 4 upper teeth. She even told me that we could go to another dentist for a second opinion & that the other dentist would say the same thing. When I asked how my son would eat, her answer was that "kids are resilient"...WTH?So my son is supposed to have no teeth for the next 5-6 years& be made fun of in Kindergarten?? Anyways, when I took my son to Dr.BAker&told him I would not pull my son's teeth, he immediatly said, why would you do that? how will he eat? Needless to say I loved him right away.Instead of causing my son all the pain & anguish of teeth extractions,he put in 4 crowns on the upper teeth. (We chose the white, not the silver) &4 more silver in the back, bottom& top. He also did baby root canals on the teeth because my son was in pain everytime he ate something hot/cold. My son's teeth look absolutely beautiful!!! This dentist is kind, friendly and patient, him and his staff treat children like human beings& not dollar signs. His anaesthesiologist is the same, very knowledgeable and kind. We will be patients for life!

My child came to Dr. Baker's office for her six months check up and cleaning. The staff are all very corteous, happy, excited and very friendly. They make all the children in the office feel very comfortable and they know how to handle fearful children. My child was taken care of like she was one of their family members. Dr. Baker showed me and expalined to me my child's x-rays on his camera and I was relieved to know about the growing permanent teeth and their placing. I love this office and so does my child. The staff is great and so is Dr. Baker. I recommend him to any one who is lookign for a pediatric dentist.

I brought my children (3) to Dr. Baker's office in Poway and I was very satisfied and happy with the way his staff have treated my children. From the moment we checked-in, from the x-ray, and cleaning, to the check-out process, it was very professional and they were so nice. Dr. Baker, gave me a step by step explanation about the procedures that one of my children has. I love this office for my children and I recommend them to anyone!!!!!!
