Dr. Pyon's office provides great service at a super reasonable price. He is so unpretentious--which is refreshing for the Palo Alto area. There are other offices that are more updated, but you pay big bucks for that kind of office. I was very happy with how nice he is and how he handles all of his cleanings. There is no hygienist. That is probably how he keeps the costs down.

I recently moved to the Bay Area and had no idea which dentist I should go for cleaning, I picked Dr. Pyon based in Yelp reviews. He was very easy to talk to and he listens to you carefully. He is really nice as a person. However, I doubt if he is able to make a good decision as a dentist. He examined my mouth and gave me good cleaning. It was gentle, zero pain. But, when it comes to actual treatment suggestions, he leaves it up to you a bit too much. For example... He goes like "it might be better for you to have your wisdom teeth removed". So I say " oh really?". Then he says, "well, it's up to you. It's not easy to keep wisdom teeth clean as it's located far back. But maybe you are good at brushing your teeth. I don't know. It's up to you." And I'm all so confused. In a way, obviously, he's not trying to make money, but then, he might make you wonder what treatment you really need and what not. He is really a nice guy so it would be ok to go to him for cleaning. But if I had any other serious concerns about my teeth, i would probably go for a different dentist. Oh btw, he is not at all high-tech like other dentist's office in the area.

Nice, young dentist who does cleaning himself -- $60 on Aetna plan.

I had work done my Dr. Pyon and it was most assuredly the worst dental experience(s) I've ever had. Though he was professional and very concerned about keeping the cost of the work he did low, it was just very very painful. I just had some simple cavities filled, and it was very very painful both during and after the work was done. His response was that I should take some OTC pain medication several times per day for several weeks, and after a month or so, my bite remains very odd-feeling, despite the fact that I told him repeatedly the fillings were too high and he told me that they were not. I would most certainly not reccomend him to any other potential patients.
