I have been to this office quite a few times over the last several years. I have witnessed him being angry and short with both his staff and myself. So much so that I mentioned in when they called to book a cleaning. I pretty much said I did not want to come back. He apologized and was really nice for the first time. This time I arranged to have two procedures done due to my having to take anti-biotics for the sessions. When I got the appt reminder several days before they told me what I owed more then I expected and this was due to me having three fillings. When I questioned this they said he would go over the need with me before they worked on me. When I came in they asked for the full amount up front to which I explained again I had only planned on a cleaning and one filling. Next thing I know he comes out and moves his staff out of the way and prints out my chart and hands it to me and tells me to get a second opinion. He was furious and I was so embarressed. No body should have to be treated like that ever! The records he was basing this need on were 2 yrs old! It was a devastating and horrible experieince not to mention unprofessional

Stay away from this place!!! Dr. James is gone now, but the replacement (Dr. Jacob or something) is Even worse! I had two bridges fail and the crowns were not sealed so leakage resulted and the teeth supporting the bridge are now lost. "Just fix the really sore teeth, don't think to mention all the other problems on the x-ray" Seems to be their motto. I agree with the McDentist comment above. This place spends more time trying to get you to sign for payment while you are in the chair than, actually looking at the terrible x-rays that their incompetent staff take and do any sort of decent dental work. The good news is that you can go in and they will give you comfort in thinking that everything will be okay for a very low price... That lasts for a year... then good luck in finding a dentist in town that will be able to fix all of the damage they cause for less than 10-20 times what you paid in the first place. Absolutely HORRIFIC!!! Please run away before they touch your teeth.

Big facilities, very fexible time, and quick service. The only thing is the doctor dealing with few patients at the same time, and didn't really listen to your concern.

I had an unpleasant experience at Dental Center of West L.A. (the office of Dr. David James). I was fitted for a bite guard that turned out to be not only incredibly expensive but so uncomfortable that I cannot wear it. The office also made it very difficult as they would not do a checkup and cleaning in the same visit.

Almost never spoke with Dr. James, which I didn't think much of, and otherwise seemed fairly good, even if the staff seemed to be unable to give me straight answers about whether or not my insurance would cover various items in treatment (I have significant gum issues & need treatment regarding this). Here was the real problem: They recommended that I get my wisdom teeth out immediately, and (I think falsely) told me that the only way my insurance would cover the removal is to have one of the dentists do it (as opposed to an oral surgeon). I went for that, as it would save about $1300 that way. Well, that meant one of the dentists was supposed to remove the 3 emerged wisdom teeth, & those came out fine. BUT, he then said "I can get the last one," and then attempted to dig out the unemerged one. He ended up not getting all of it, and the shard that was left went into my sinus cavity. A couple days, emergency surgery, and $1600 later, I no longer had any teeth pieces in my face, but it took a long time to heal for what appeared to be (in retrospect) something that should have been done by a surgeon in the first place, which no one at that dentists' office seemed to want to tell me. Overall, some definite sketchiness here.

Dont expect an upscale office. This is a dental office only. They dont serve lattes and give massages, but they do provide quality dental care. Ive never had a problem.

A McDentist experience -- fast, cheap, and unpleasant. Don't expect any customer service. My dentist wouldn't even discuss the procedure (wisdom tooth pullled) with me -- he wore his surgical mask during the entire visit, I never even saw his face. He wanted me in and out so fast I was barely allowed to put money in the meter. I don't recommend this place to anyone.

Dr. James has been my dentist for 15 years. He is not only a very good dentist - he has been on the staff at UCLA in addition to his practice - he goes out of his way to make his dental care affordable.
