I have very sensitive teeth and pain management is a huge issue for me. Dr Cheung has been the best dentist I have visited in my life in terms of pain management. I had to extract 2 teeth this time and he performed it with as little pain as possible. All these came at an affordable price (self paying patient). Facilities aren't stunningly modern but clean and neat. Dr Cheung chats a little with me, though I won't say he is on the chatty side. I would recommend him to others, especially those who have sensitive teeth like me.

Dr Cheung gave sound advice on what options I needed to consider based on my financial capabilities and did a great job. He's done great jobs on my past dental works as well without me having to go back for repeated visits on the same issues.

About Front Desk: Very friendly.

I will keep this review short, but stay away from his office Jump to the end for my recommendation. I went to Dr. Cheung for 15 years and he did a lot of dental work for me. Despite my hesitation about how he worked on me, I continued to go because I thought the final work was good. Like others here, he argued with his staff in front of me many times, going from English to Chinese when the arguments really heated up. He left debris in my mouth after he finished working on me. He cut my lip and he refused to send me to an endodontist for my 5th root canal telling me that I didn't know what I has talking about, and that it was "no big fat deal" and that I should just go home and let it settle down. What he had missed was 4 absesses at the tips of my roots on the tooth in question. He had not taken an x-ray of the top of the tooth where the problem was. I had a new crown crack on me after 10 days, which he promptly replaced, but it was always mis-shapen until my new and better dentist replaced it. If you go to the 8th Floor of this same building, you will find a much better and more sensitive dentist at Oakland City Dental. The dentist on the 8th floor is a real find!

About Front Desk: Ended up going over my insurance amount without my approval and I was hit with $3K of charges. This office is poory run.

When I came in for my initial visit the front desk staff was very nice and helpful and they made me feel at ease. His services are very good for someone who doesn't talk as much. I got some fillings done and they looked good. overall, customer service was great and the office had a friendly environment.

About Hygienist: The hygienist was very nice and sweet.

Each time I waited between 30 to 40 minutes after time for appointment to actually get into a chair. While I was there I waited, while he would give me a shot and then wait some more. He was treating another patient as the same time as me so he would go back and forth. When he finally did come to put the crown in, the crown seemed to fit well. But after the novacaine wore off, the tooth was still sensitive to hot and cold. While Dr. Cheung was pleasant, I don't think he really listened to my complains. He just couldn't get it right. Anyway I switched to another dentist.

I was in pain for weeks seeing this man, and the very next dentist I went to (second opinion) was horrified, as a simple percussive test proved (as did the following xrays) that I was in desperate need of a root canal. Unacceptable! I ended up having to have ALL the work redone at great personal expense -- the insurance had no interest in helping me get my money back without putting me through an ardous process. It took many weeks to get my files from his office, and when I finally got them, most everything was missing. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here because I respect the profession itself too much to have one more person go through the extraordinary pain and financial loss I went through. I remain to this day, out well over a thousand dollars, and the damage done by that man is not something that can be fixed.

Dr. Cheung has a strong accent and is difficult to understand. Even so, I have visited his office several times for the same tooth and I get a different opinion from him on treatment each time - first he recomends replacing the filling, then when I schedule an appointment to do that, then he says, no I need a crown. Similar problems with another tooth. He recommends the most expensive treatments for each problem. The office waiting room is cold with uncomfortable chairs, and they wont let you use their restroom, but make you go upstairs to another floor.
