I'd been going to an expensive, modern dentist in the Gold Coast since I moved to Chicago, 10 years ago. Regular cleanings every 6 months, regular x-rays, fluoride treatments, all these extras I wasn't even aware I was paying for and didn't need. 2 years ago they find a cavity between two teeth, which resulted in a crown being put in. 2 years later they find another cavity between two other teeth and say I may lose the tooth, as well as a cavity beneath the crown they'd just put in a couple years ago. Really? So I visited my wife's dentist, Dr. Sklar. Come to find out the crown was improperly put in, leaving a gap, causing a cavity. I have a concave tooth beside the tooth and instead of correcting the crown, my last dentist just threw it in and called it a day. As a result, I was always using floss and a Waterpick. I'd have never known, other than when Dr. Sklar had my new crown made, the lab did the same thing and sent the tooth without a convex side to fill that void. Fortunately, Dr. Sklar has a tech on premises who can add to the porcelain. Dr. Sklar then carefully shaped the tooth and now it fits like a glove. I highly recommend Dr. Sklar. His office may not be flashy, but he cares about his patients. Sincerely.

About Front Desk: Very friendly. The wait was not long and even one time I got in early. They are very accommodating here and don't leave you standing around waiting to process your visit or pay a bill. Very efficient and a comfortable waiting room to boot.

About Hygienist: Bonnie is my hygienist. Fantastic woman. She and Dr. Sklar have been working together for as long as they have been in business. They are seamless together. It's as if they can predict what the other needs or is even about to say. Great hygienist. Best I've ever had and I've only been going to this practice for a month. Granted, It was three visits in one month, so I feel comfortable saying that..

I had 2 root canals performed by Dr. Sklar. Cost: I chose him because he was covered by my HMO, but I still ended up paying close to $1000 for the 2 root canals. Facilities: Two of the times I was there his equipment wasn't working & I had to be shuffled around between rooms until he was able to make things work. Customer Service: His assistant was very pleasant. That's about the only good thing I can say about the whole experience. Dr. Sklar was so incredibly rude & mean-spirited. I have NEVER had such a terrible experience in any customer service situation. From the moment I walked in he was mean & critical. I actually felt like he wanted to fight with me physically - that's the vibe he put off. On top of criticizing me for needing dental work, he got in my face & let me know that if I wasn't going to "follow through" with this then he didn't want to have anything to do with me. Pain, Stress & Anxiety: I have bed teeth, so I have a lot of experience with dentists and pain. Root canals hurt. The stress of having to deal with Dr. Sklar was intolerable. Treatment Success: In the year since getting the root canals I have had constant pain & infection & ended up having to have both teeth extracted. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

Dr. Sklar was great. However, his staff is disorganized and the woman in charge of billings is extremly rude. With all the dentists in the area I would rather go to one who knows how to bill my insurance correctly the first time.

Extremely good dentist that I would recommend to anyone. Have gone to others over the years, but always return to Dr. Sklar.

Dr. Sklar was very professional and the work he did was very high quality. Like many busy dentists, however, he had a lot of patients come in at the same time, which meant that each patient only got limited attention. That said, when he was giving you the attention you needed, he was very nice and did great work.

The office needs a major update, but everyone there is very nice and professional and very good! The Dentist is thorough and knowledgeable and honest - will not sell you dentalwork that you don't need.
