I had an implant but a screw came out. I called the office and was told to come in. A nurse tried forcing it back in. It was painful and she didn't know what she was doing. Untrained and totally unqualified to put a dental implant in a patient's mouth. A medical office is only as good as its staff and Kurtz has a terrible, rude staff. Go somewhere else. His staff is as arrogant as he is.

I am only leaving one star because I have to! Awful business. I waited TWO AND A HALF HOURS past my appointment time to see the doctor and the only reason why anyone bothered to inform me of what was going on was because I came out of the room and told them I was going to be late for my meeting. Then all of a sudden the doctor appeared and did, quite literally, a five minute check of my mouth, explained several options of procedures I could chose from, all of which seemed extreme. Then he made his assistant scan my mouth in some elaborate scanner, which my insurance company never approved and it was never explained to me that coverage might be an issue and therefore a significant out-of-pocket cost before they did it. On my way out, I asked the ladies at the front if the person who dealt with insurance could please call my insurance company with the appropriate diagnostic codes of the procedures Dr Kurtz addressed with me and let me know how much each would run me after insurance coverage, as the cost of each procedure would determine what I could afford to do. I was told the woman who handled that wasn't in, but SHE WOULDN'T KNOW THAT SHE SHOULD GIVE ME A QUOTE UNLESS I BOOKED A SURGERY because that's how their system worked. Um, okay. First off, why can't someone offer to leave her a note telling her to do so? And secondly, what part of I need to understand how much this will cost me FIRST before I book the surgery don't you understand? This is what I was thinking but I was very outwardly patient and asked that they please leave her a note. I called a few days later and was told she needed more time, like a couple of WEEKS. A couple of weeks for a ten minute call to an insurance company? I worked with insurance companies for years, I know how these things go. Well, okay, maybe she's really backed up or going on vacation or something. So I wrote it on my calendar and called again in two weeks. I was told then that she could only give me the amounts the procedures would cost (which I had already been given), NOT what my insurance would cover. Clearly this woman had either never been given the message to call my insurance company or she blew off the request. Both are completely unacceptable and unprofessional. So here's how it turned out: I was thoroughly annoyed after that. I went to a different oral surgeon for a second opinion because I felt in my gut that Dr Kurtz was ripping me off (on top of how horribly unprofessional everyone at his office was), and it turns out he was. The other oral surgeon quoted me significantly less at a much more well-equipped office, in the same neighborhood as Dr Kurtz's. She said she didn't need a scan of my mouth like Dr Kurtz did, and she said she had NO idea why Dr Kurtz had required I was anesthetized for the surgery when that added over $1000 to my surgery costs and was really only necessary for patients who were petrified of the dentist (I'm not). She also said I didn't need a sinus lift (which Dr Kurtz said I needed). When I left my FIRST appointment with this new oral surgeon, the woman who handled the insurance had ALREADY called my insurance company and had all the costs ready for me before I even asked for them! A few weeks ago I received a bill for $334 for the scan Dr Kurtz had chosen to do on my mouth without informing me of the cost or the likelihood that this wouldn't be covered by my insurance. I was really annoyed. I stopped into the office and the receptionist gave me the billing manager's number, who of course, is off site. I called and left a message. By a week later I had still received no call back. I called again and she happened to pick up the phone. I explained the situation and she said she couldn't help me because services were already rendered, and if I wanted I could "put it in writing" and send it to the office. So I hand delivered a letter to Dr Kurtz that explained basically all of this to the office and watched as it was handed to him. And he never contacted me to try to make it right. That was weeks ago, and today I received another bill. So I guess I'm taking this to small claims court so they don't send this to collections and penalize my credit because they are crooks.

My experience was fine. I found dr Kurtz to be knowledgable and willing to take the time to explain the procedure and put me at ease before getting the novicane. They worked with my insurance which kept my charges lower than I expected. I would recommend dr Kurtz. Ian moving forward with plans to have him do implants on 4 teeth.

Once I got into the operating room I then waited an additional 45 minutes before being seen by Dr Kurtz. When Dr Kurtz finally arrived we discussed options for my procedure. While preparing for the procedure I had an adverse reaction to the "laughing gas" and asked if we could use anesthesia. Even though I was dizzy due to the "laughing gas", Dr Kurtz told me that in order to receive anesthesia I would need to walk down the hall and immediately pay an additional $300. When I asked to call my husband in the waiting room to grab my wallet as I was still feeling dizzy, Dr Kurtz refused and told me that I was wasting his time. He told me that I must be dizzy due to taking drugs before coming to his office and that I was a grown woman and could handle this without my husband's help. After completing the procedure with only Novocaine I was given extremely minimal instructions for recovery care and no follow up appointment was made by the staff. After speaking with my insurance company to voice my concerns about the billing, I learned that Dr Kurtz improperly billed them for procedures that I did not have and I was overcharged as well. I would not recommend anyone to visit Dr Kurtz and I will be following up with another oral surgeon.

About Front Desk: My overall experience with Dr Kurtz and his front desk staff was horrendous. It began with my appointment being cancelled just days prior to the scheduled date. As soon as I arrived on the date of my new appointment I was forced to pay for 100% of my services without an invoice. The receptionists were extremely rude when I questioned this and refused to let me clarify the services that would be performed with the doctor.

Put bluntly, my family had a terrible experience with Dr. Kurtz. Rarely have I come across a health care provider with his level of arrogance and poor bedside manner. I found him rude and unapologetic when questioned about his treatment of my family and the way he spoke with them. I would not recommend him under any circumstances. - D. McGuire

I had a terrible experience with this office. I was not told until moments before my son's procedure that I would not be allowed to stay in the room with him.My son is 9 and was scared.Had I known that office policy was not to allow parents to stay in the room I would have prepared my son ahead of time.A nurse told me it was office policy and Dr. Kurtz then informed me(he seemed annoyed I had an issue with this)that they don't tell parents ahead of time on purpose. He went on to compare the procedure to an emergency surgery in a hospital-if I would not be allowed in the OR for an appendectomy why would I be allowed to stay with my son for simple tooth extractions?!?! What a terrible comparison! My son had never had laughing gas before and was scared. The office staff takes your money within 10 minutes of arrival, then makes you wait almost an hour(with a child who hasn't eaten in 12 hours)and has terrible bedside manner.I will be finding a new oral surgeon. Just wanted other parents to know

I had to have emergency wisdom tooth surgery to remove all 4. Needless to say, I was caught off guard, and nervous after hearing a ton of horror stories. Dr. Kurtz was wonderful! I would never want to go to another surgeon to get a tooth pulled! His bedside manner made me very comfortable. He explained everything thoroughly, and answered all of my questions. The surgery itself was quick and painless. I only had to take advil (I literally had no pain!) The only thing that was uncomfortable was my jaw, but that is typical. Dr. Kurtz is the absolute best you could find!!!! A+++
