I had an unforgettably bad experience: like an episode from the Twilight Zone -surreal. I was in JAX for vacation & had a toothache, so I saw Dr. Grier. No one likes dentist appts, but I left this one in tears for the following reasons: 1.) Dr. G was friendly at first, but then became dramatic, treating me as though I had the worst teeth ever, and if I didn't start her treatment plan soon, I'd die or something. This made me anxious for the rest of the appt. (for the record, my regular dentist says I have good teeth: a cavity here or there, but otherwise fine). 2.) Another reviewer mentioned a flossing incident. Same thing happened here. Condescension X 100. 3.) I am reasonably educated, but I didn't go to school to be a dentist, so scolding me for not knowing how to read my Xray is not OK. That is the dentist's job. 4.) When Dr. G found out that my boyfriend hadn't seen a dentist in a while, she advised me against kissing him since his gum disease would spread to me; I later found out from 2 other dentists that this is a total MYTH. Not only that, my intimacy is NONE of her business. I should've told her so, but honestly, I was so stunned by the whole experience, I just wanted to escape. I'm so glad to be back home now.

About Front Desk: Polite. However, they were taking quite a wile to process my insurance paperwork. I understand that this kind of thing would cause a delay, however, if I'm going to be kept waiting over 40 min, I'd like someone to at least tell me that there is a delay or let me know that they are working on it, not leave me in the dark long enough to watch an entire TV show, which I did ("Live with Kelly and Michael" was blaring on the reception area TV set). One would think that they could at least spare a minute to let me know, especially when I am the only patient in the entire place. No joke, it was a ghost town in there. Actually, I think "Kelly and Michael" may have been the best part of the entire experience. Ha ha!

Hygiene rating:

About Hygienist: Polite, but not exactly friendly. Did not smile (not even a fake smile), which to me is a deal-breaker. When the dentist basically accused me of not knowing how to floss, the hygienist was told to give me a "proper lesson". Just because people don't floss as often as they should does not mean they do not know how to. Also, it is only necessary for staff members/ the dentist to hand out one or two patient referral cards, and casually mention the referral program to the patient, not try to sell the program to the patient like a time-share salesperson. Very unprofessional. Drumming up business is the responsibility of the practice, not the patient. This just adds to the money-driven atmosphere of the place. And judging by the lack of other patients, business was clearly struggling - perhaps others have had a negative experience as well.
