I can recall only a handful of times in my life where I faced a true emergency. On the evening of October 25, 2016 at 8:30, I was munching on popcorn, and prepared to go to bed by 9:00. At 6:00 a.m. I would be leaving for the airport to fly to Los Angeles, to board a 17-day cruise to Hawaii. On board, as a guest lecturer, I had nine presentations scheduled.
For the first time my life, I broke a tooth in an area that would be visible every time I spoke. I was taken aback. I quickly picked up the broken piece, putting it in a zip-lock bag, and went to the phone book as well as the Internet to determine what kind of emergency dental services were available in Raleigh. After making about a half-dozen calls, I realized there were few viable alternatives. Many numbers that I called was merely answering services. Some respondents said that their “24 hour service” ended at 9 p.m.
Reluctantly, I called my own dentist, Naresh Paran DDS. I didn't want to bother him because over the years he had done so many wonderful things for my teeth, but seemingly I had little choice.
