I was in a car accident in 2001, referred to Dr. Hakala who claimed after completing several tests, I had TMJ which scored a 4 (severe). I actually was 1 and never could have been a 4 confirmed by two TMJ specialists who both attempted after many treatments to repair the damage caused by the mouth splint Dr. Hakala had me wear for six months. The treatments cost my insurance company over $8,000 for irreversable damage. To this day I'm still unable to open my mouth properly, I live in constant pain caused by his mistreatments. I've kept the original x-rays, and his reports. When my mouth had went into a severe spasm which caused stroke like symptoms, he told me on the phone to get a wooden spoon put it in my mouth like a dog bone and pull down. Next appointment he manually tried to get my joints back in place, by injecting three shots waited 30 minutes to be numb then placed his hands in my and pulled down, then sent me home wearing an upper/lower splint said there now you're back in place. I started to cry and my mother who witnessed took one look at him and said she's done being treated by you! I did report this to the Board of Dentistry.
