I became a patient of Dr. Gerardi's at American Dental as an adult seeking braces for the 2nd time in my life. During my orthodontic treatment, my dentist informed me that I had a forward tongue thrust and would need a special appliance (I later became aware was called a "spinner" and also speech therapy.) Dr. Gerardi dismissed the importance of either of these treatments indicating that once my braces came off a standard retainer would suffice. I was an adult patient willing to wear braces a 2nd time and was extremely compliant with treatment, it should have been obvious that I would gladly do what was necessary to achieve a desired outcome. American Dental compromised my orthodontic treatment in the interest of economics. I already finished a year of treatment by the time my forward tongue thrust & immature swallowing pattern were discovered, which would have prolonged treatment, and my treatment fee was already fixed by the contract, so they had an interest in hurrying my treatment along. The fact that I had a permanent retainer affixed to my bottom teeth when starting treatment and needed braces AGAIN should have been a red flag that these issues were present. I wasted 18 months in treatment and over $3000.
