The only pediatric dentist in the East Bay that could treat my autistic son. An absolutely delightful woman who is a great dentist and very honest. Has Sat. hours. Wish I could go to her myself! Highly recommend!

My 4 year old went to her first dentist appointment with another dentist practice and was told that she had 2 cavities and they said that they had to put her under because of her age (2 at the time) drill and then fill the cavities. I was reluctant to do this so I asked around and Karen Fong's name kept coming up. So, I took my daughter to see her and she said there was no reason to drill the cavities. So next appointment Dr. Fong picked away the cavities with the instrument (because they are soft baby teeth my daughter felt nothing), put flouride on the teeth and then sealed it. Natalie has been fine for 2 years now. Dr. Fong checks the seals every 4 months. We are happy and my daughter is not afraid of the dentist. My 2 year old just had her first check up with Dr. Fong and they were very patient with her in sitting in the chair and they explain everything to her in "kid language" (i.e. special toothbrush that sounds like this, put a white star on your tooth etc.). Great practice, but don't expect to be wow'd by the office or the toys they give the kids upon leaving.

We have three children, one with special needs. Dr. Fong always does an amazing job with all our children, but especially our special needs child who is extremely sensitive!

Although friendly and seemingly competent, Dr Fong's office and facilities left me wondering. My concerns were suppported as my daughter's filling began hurting her again and a second dentist commented on the sloppy nature of the filling.
I would be hestiant to recommend her practice to others based on my experience.

The waiting room is small but comfortable and the receptionist is helpful and friendly. Dr. Fong seemed nice enough during the consultation.but she does use the papoose (a child restraint) on children who won't stay still. Our current dentist refuses to use them, preferring to not instill dentist phobias in kids.

Our two children have been Dr. Fong's patients for several years. They had cleaning, fillings and one crown done during this time. They like this dentist very much and have never complained about anything. In fact, they insist on staying with this dentist, even when the time is coming for them to move to an adult dentist. Specifically, they cannot think of anything negative about this dentist. They just like Dr. Fong!
What I like about this dentist is that she patiently explains the situation with the teeth, suggests treatment but lets the patients and the parents participate in the decision. Some dentists don't even bother to ask. To quote my son: "she always lets you decide if you want the extraction (of the baby teeth) or not". As a result, my son was able to wiggle out couple of his baby teeth by himself. I myself also like the written feedback she provides after dental examination/hygiene.
The front desk employees are excellent and always extremely helpful.
In addition to her skills as a dentist, Dr. Fong has her own child or children. In my opinion, this helps her a lot in dealing with children and making them comfortable. Our children like her!
