If you are in need of a good periodontist, look no further than Dr. Steven Exler.
Dr. Exler is extremely gifted in his work, and is also gentle, caring, and attentive to his patients. I was referred to him by my coworkers and dentist in Toluca Lake. He also has offices in Encino.
The gum scaling procedure I had done is often known to be quite painful in recovery, however, he did such good work, I had no use for any pain medications.
My gum problems were the result of bad genes, bad dental work done years ago, and lack of maintenance on my own part. Between Dr. Exler and Dr. Kobashigawa (my DDS), my teeth are well on their way to better health.
If you are in need of gum surgery or any other type periodontal work, Dr. Exler is the guy you want!!! Call him!!

Dr. Steve has a chairside manner unlike others. He explains procedures extremely well prior to performing them. I am impressed with his desire to make sure I understand all of my options before I proceed.
If you desire periodontal care where it is solely controlled by the periodontist himself (as opposed to being seen by the hygienist and rarely having your doctor see you), then Dr. Steve's office is the place to be.

I was unlucky to have had a horrible dentist when I was young, which included him slipping with the drill and cutting open my lip. So I didn't go to a dentist for many years because of my fear. I have a great dentist now, but the damage had been done. My dentist referred my son to Dr. Exler first because he needed a gum graft, which he did and it was very successful and my teenage son had little or no discomfort. Because of my history, my dentist also suggested that Dr. Exler keep an eye on my gums, which were in pretty bad shape. Dr. Exler did the deep planing and my gum health improved, but my pockets were deep enough that I have to have surgery. He just completed the first quadrant. I can't say enough about him. He always explains why a procedure needs to be done. I brought up a procedure that I had read about regarding bone loss, and he said that he could do it and take my money, but that it really wasn't right for my situation and it would be a waste of money. He's very ethical and I would recommend him in a heartbeat. His staff is also excellent.

I disagree with this patients review of Steven Exler.
I found nothing "very funny" regarding his personality,and he was evasive about my dental diagnosis, Typically, he did not give a forthright 2nd opinion of the inferior work of my previous dentist,in order to remain un-involved and cover himself. I suppose if you need a cleaning, he's fine. The reception-staff is very nice,though.

Dr. Exler was nothing but great! I was referred to him by a friend who had nothing but positive things to say about this talented young doctor. He obviously has a passion for what he does and is good at it. The procedure was not as long as I accepted it to be, normal discomfort was present for a few hours after surgery. He was funny and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire procedure, making the atmosphere pleasant, not awkward. The women at the front desk were able to answer all my billing questions. A tad on he pricey side... you get what you pay for. Toluca Lake Dentistry has a great dentist and wonderful assistants!
