OK, so I normally go to Dr. Hsu but for a procedure I had to have Dr. Fuller. I don't know if he was maybe having a bad day but I didn't like him at all. He was very rough- even the anesthia shot was painful. He was matter a fact- not really a people person. He did do his job though. I wouldn't recommend going to him- If you don't mind putting up with the pain he does do a good job.

Dr. Fuller does periodontal (only) stuff at the 7-day Hui Dental Clinic operation on El Camino Real at 9th St. In San Mateo. Currently (9/16/2004), he works there on Thursdays. I had avoided all dentistry for WAY too many years due to bad experiences with both a dentist and an orthodontist during childhood So, for this "cleaning" (root planing, really) he definitely had his work cut out for him. He seems to have done it really well. It was done with no hassle or anxiety. For example, when he was administering local anaesthetic shots, he'd keep the syringe out of my sight line and would do the injections only after applying the topical anaesthetic (liquid on a q-tip) to the gum first. Finally, he participates in my (MetLife) "Preferred Dentist Program." So, that meant that the cost for the full "root planing" cleaning that consumed 3-4 hours total over 2 sessions was surprisingly cheap. Notice that I didn't rate him at the numeric end of the scale. That's not a "backhanded compliment." For example, I don't KNOW if he's "the BEST periodontist in my area," but he's quite good as far as I'm concerned. Definitely recommended.
