Dr. Martin Frankel is one of the worst MDs I have ever used in my 48+ years of living in USA.. Not only he wasted patient's time, e.g., he kept patients in his office for 4 - 5 hours for an at most 1 hour TMJ treatment; but his charges are ridiculously high. He charged me $500 for my first visit to his office on 3/8/13 and $1,650 for my 2nd visit on 3/18/13. The total time he spent on me for each visit did not exceed 1 hour!

I have spent the last two years undergoing physical therapy and orthodontic treatment to undo the extraordinary damage this quack did to my jaw. By the time he was done the alignment of my jaw was RUINED. I lost 15 pounds because I could not chew. Do not walk RUN away from his office.

All of those negative reviews were true of my experience. I ended up with a lot of pain and a swollen jaw. My lost my facial musculature and my bite. I no longer know where my bite is.

Went for TMJ problems. Very well known doctor in his field, however the time spent in the office is too long! Not just the treatment, but Dr. Frankel will drone on and on about any inane subject forever! Please, I just want to go home - 2 hours in his office is not unusual - I'd say the treatment was only 1 hour 15 minutes, the rest was blah, blah, blah. Same goes for his assistant.

I called to ask if Dr. Frankel was part of my plan and the nasty lady that answered the phone refused to give me any answers, stating that she didn't trust anyone calling her on the phone and to fax my questions to her on my "official letterhead." I have never been so rudely treated by an office staff member of any medical provider. If I could rate the above sections "0" I would.

I was told insurance would cover my treatment, but it did not and I ended up having to pay over $10,000 out of pocket. I was given a split and told that I needed to come for $500+ treatments twice per week and by the time I found out insurance would not cover the treatment over $10,000 had incurred (about $3,000 for the split, over $2000 for the initial consulation, and various visits twice per week). The treatment (being hooked up to a tens machine for 20 minutes) did not help and my situation is the same. Buy a split at Walgreens and invest in a $50 tens machine on Amazon!!!

Was having anxiety attacks and severe pain on my back, neck, chest, ears, face, head and sometimes arms, hands and can go all the way down to my left foot. Sometimes my head felt like swinging fast and slow, feeling like I was going to fall and so much more symptoms that I thought I was going to die.
After seeing Dr. Frankel, he made me the jaw immobilizer/ splint that put height on my short temporary molar crown and helped stabilize my bite, also reassured me that I was not going to die even though I was suffering so much. I felt much better after wearing the jaw splint and still on treatment at this time.
Dr. Frankel and his staff are very supportive, understanding of what I'm going through and I cannot wait to join those patients who had been successfully treated.
I wish the treatment was covered by medical insurance, I have a limited budget so any cost is expensive to me. I do not know the cost of other doctors' like him so I really cannot compare.

I was only 22 years old with a minor TMJ problem when I saw Dr. Martin Frankel. He checked the maximum amount of money my insurance would pay before starting my treatment and charged me that amount. Since my insurance do not pay a lump sum, but incrementally, he tailored the length of my treatment according to its payment schedule. Once the payment was collected in full, he said my treatment was over. It took well over a year before the maximum amount was reached. Even though my treatment should have stopped a long time ago, he continued to schedule me so he could collect the money. My jaw ended up being moved too much and out of alignment. When I brought up the pain, he would say I said fine when asked how I am feeling, and if I sue him he has it in writing to proof it. I was not even thinking about suing at all when I brought up the pain. My face and life has changed forever and I became eligible for Social Security Disability. When SSI tried to extract my file from him, he refused to turn it over. Today I am 37 years old and has since moved on. I am sharing my experience as a cautionary tale, so no one else would go through what I went through.
