Examination was thorough and informative. Dr Starr did a great job of explaining the procedure he would use in order to gain the most positive results for my concerns. From a financial perspective, his cost is higher than most dentists as he does not accept insurance. Although people that he is worth the extra money in order to get favorable results.
About Front Desk: Front desk was exceptional. The reception was kind and my wait time was minimal.

Dr. Starr is, hands-down, the best prosthodontis in the DC area. He did a Maryland Bridge for me, which is a false tooth attached to adjacent teeth, over 20 years ago, and the porcelain is as new today and as it was then. I had a dentist in Atlanta, who is well-respected, and he was amazed at the work. I would even travel to DC if I needed such a procedure again, but be forewarned he is extremely expensive.

If you have the luxury of time and can afford to have scheduled reconstructive dentistry -- and especially if you can afford high fees -- you may well conclude that you have received what you paid for. However, if you need ongoing and timely care, or if cost is a factor, this may not be the practitioner. As another reviewer notes, a patient may find it difficult to schedule appointments or reschedule, if cancelled. Quality care, if timely scheduled and available, is provided -- but without much apparent caring.
About Hygienist: No recommendation.

Dr. Starr stepped into the picture and corrected severely deficient work as performed by another area doctor who was extremely expensive. One of the primary differences between Dr. Starr and the other dentist was how Dr. Starr saw ONLY one patient at a time and gave me his complete care and attention. Then his procedures were state of the art and the results of my cosmetic dentistry are stellar. Not only is my smile stunning, but entirely natural looking. Even my close friends think I just had my teeth whitened. Strangers have complimented me on my smile. But still only Dr. Starr and I know...

He has a terrible bed side manner
He hurt me and is very rough, not gentle when he is working on you.
It takes him a very long time to finish the job that should take half the time to do. He has you come back triple the amount of times to get the job done and it still isn't correct.
I always got cuts on my mouth for him pulling too much, and a lot of unnecessary bleeding from him cutting me by mistake when working in my mouth.
He put permanent adhesive on a temporary tooth by mistake when he was just testing something out and had to really hurt me to release the tooth.
Very, Very Expensive
He made some very bad mistakes at my expense.
About Hygienist: ok - good.

Dr. Starr is a dentist's dentist. He is the dentist to whom other dentists send their patients. He spends a good amount of time with his patients and does great work, especially compared to a lot of dentists in this area. He fixed a crown that had been done incorrectly by another local and well respected dentist. Unfortunately, because he is in such demand it is hard to get an appointment right away. Once you have an appointment, often the staff receptionist will call to cancel right before the appointment due to a schedule change on Dr. Starr's part. It is then very difficult to get another timely appointment. His staff is not as good as he is and that is also unfortunate. He also is very expensive and does not accept insurance.

Dr. Starr is an excellent doctor, has very high standars for this work and cares about his patients. Although he is usually fully booked for the next three months, he makes time to see his regular patients when they have a dental problem. The downside is that treatment with him is quite expensive and goes well over the insurance allowed amounts. If money is not an issue for you or you have an excellent insurance plan, I highly recommend Dr. Starr for any restorative dentistry and crowns.

Dr Starr did my full upper arch crowns, implants and bridge work, it turned out wonderful. I just wish they were lighter...w/everyone doing the bleeching my teeth do appear quite dark in comparison (they should be the same whiteness as the white of the eye).
