Dr. Trautmann was very pleasant, communicative, very chatty, and gentle for the first visit. I am allergic to epinephren and told him and his assistant that I am always given Lidocaine. He gave me an injection of a different drug and said they use it in place of Lidocaine. However, on the second visit, no one had bothered to put my allergy into my dental records and I was injected with Novacaine. I immediately got a severe headache and my chest started hurting. I told the dental assistant that they had given me Novacaine and she rushed out of the room to talk to the Dr. Well, by the time she returned, I was having PVC's like crazy and could hardly breathe. She LIED and said that I had been given the correct shot. I DO NOT have reactions to Lidocaine. She put a blood pressure cuff on, bp was HIGH, and left it on. I was numb until 2 a.m. the next morning. They injected me with the wrong drug, then lied to try to cover it.
Novocaine is mixed with epinephrine.
Epinephrine's defined adverse events are:
Headache.
Syncope (fainting).
Angina.
Hypertensive crisis.
Longer-term arrhythmia.
Cerebrovascular accident (stroke).
Myocardial infarction

Dr. Trautmann is a consummate professional. I was referred to him for a root canal involving an infected and curved root. Dr Trautmann is a perfectionist and works slowly to do the job right. I think this is why he was able to save the tooth--someone doing a quick drill and fill would not have been able to save the tooth. He also clearly communicates what needs to be done and what your options are. I felt completely confident in his abilities while he was working on my tooth.
The practice Dr. Trautmann works in (Endodontist Associates) has a policy of charging an extra $150 for medication (sodium something) that is injected into the tooth. But otherwise I was charged exactly what my co-pay is estimated to be in the schedule of fees put out by my insurer. Despite the extra $150 charge, I actually saved money since other dentists and endodontists wanted to charge about double the patient co-pay suggested by my insurance company.
The staff at Endodontist associates are fantastic. Receptionists in other dental offices I have been to in the area are insouciant about patient needs. The receptionists in Dr. Trautmann's office were helpful and friendly.
