I travel 40 minutes to see dr. Horng. My kids ages 9 and 7 love going to see him. I'm also very pleased with the front desk staff.
All around pleased in all areas.

Dr.Horng doesn't have the greatest bed side manner. My son has seen him twice for annual cleaning. His first visit was horrible. He was 1, so he needed special attention and care. He was already affraid and the doctor didn't try to calm him down and make him feel comforable at all. He seemed rushed! He didn't want to explain manys things and didn't really listen to any questions. Insurance (medicade) covered the appointment. The rest of the staff; the assistant was really nice and she actually put in the time to try to sooth my son. My son actually let her do the cleaning without holding him down, unlike Dr.Horng. I wouldn't really reccommend Dr.Horng unless your an adult and his office is comvienent for you. He isn't good with children.

We saw Dr. Horng when my 6 year old was referred for a filling his regular dentist was uncomfortable filling. While he treated my son well, he charged us a consult fee ($135) for a 2 minute consultation for work he completed in the next hour. When I called to ask them to remove the charge (as every other doctor I've ever used applies consult fees to work completed), they declined. I do not recommend using Dr. Horng.

Facilities are a little cramped, but adequate. Staff is friendly enough. The dentist himself needs some serious bedside manner training, especially being a kid's dentist. He seems to have a permanent scowl on his face, rarely smiles, and does not put either the child patient or the adult parent at ease, if anything, quite the opposite. Also, he doesn't do much patient education or voluntarily offer much information about dental care. He did answer questions when asked, but it was not a pleasant vibe. He could learn a lot from his own staff about how to talk to child patients and their parents. There are little prizes for the kids after their work is done, which is a nice touch, but ut does not outweigh the rest of the experience. Once he even scolded my child because somehow he got two prizes (each worth about $ .10!) Sorry Dr. H., but it's all true based on multiple visits.

Dr. Horng was the dentist for my daughter, age 7. At a recent visit, she had a front tooth coming out. It was so loose that it was sticking out straight from her mouth, and was about to fall out. We asked Dr. Horng if he could remove it, since it was ready to fall out and was annoying. I took a quick simple twist, and it came right out. He then billed us $140 for tooth removal, and was unwilling to reduce the charge, so we are looking for a new dentist.

I had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Horng while he was helping out at our Columbia pediatric dental office. He was so wonderful with my kids, that I pulled my records from our local dentist and transferred to Dr. Horng. Rockville is quite a hike from my home, but it is well worth the trip to have a dentist who takes such wonderful and loving care of my children. Dr. Horng is the best pediatric dentist in the area, hands down. It speaks volumes when a 13 year old looks forward to visiting the dentist!
