I lived in nyc for 15 years and found him after 2 really bad exp. with other dentists. Dr. Alter repaired the damage done by the others, I would highly recommend him to anyone. I moved out of state and have never found a dentist as good, or gentle and I'm now thinking about going back to nyc just to have work done again.

I have great confidence in Dr. Alter. I had a lot of bad dental work in the past, and he fixed what needed to be fixed, at a pace that balanced the dental urgency, the cost, and my tolerance for sitting in the chair for hours. He is friendly, responsive, and caring. He does not participate in any insurance plans, but he will always submit paperwork to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement. He has one receptionist and no other staff so overhead is low; keeps costs reasonable for a midtown dentist.

Simply wonderful. I found Dr. Alter in the yellow pages when I was a college student. I have never left. He is gentle, patient, charming, and above all, a phenomenal dentist. I have referrred several colleauges to him over the years and each has also become a devotee. I was bordeline dental phobic when I first went, and while I am stll pretty uncomfortable going in for any procedure and my mouth still has vivid memories of dental terror (from previous nightmare of a dentist), at least somewhere in my brain I know that a visit with Dr. Alter means that (a) the pain will be minimal, and (b) he will stop whatever he is doing if I ask him to, and (c) my teeth will be fixed. I could not reccomend him more highly.
