I've had other dentists look at Dr. Usinger's work and talk about how exceptional it is. He is expensive, but his work lasts forever, and he will investigate other, less expensive options, whenever possible. Very professional, trustworthy, and the staff is very personable. They work very hard to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.

I went to Dr. Usinger after my dentist retired and Dr. Usinger took over. I had a crown fall off of a tooth that had previously had a root canal. Dr. Usinger told me I needed a crown replacement and a large post. He asked me if I had any fear of dentists and I said just the bill, as I have no insurance. I asked him where his previous practice had been and why he came to SF to take over this practice and he said the neighborhood where he had been located was undergoing some changes, sometimes graffiti was being placed and he was afraid his patients wouldn't want to keep coming to that area. Then he said, "Besides, you can charge more in SF." He started the work on the post and I paid a $600 cash deposit. I was never given an estimate of the cost. A few days later I received a bill that said, due in full now, for $2000. $900 for the post and $1100 for the crown. I called some other dentists and found the average price for a crown was $750-$950. I had him finish the post and told him I was going elsewhere for the crown. He was a little put off by this and said he couldn't charge less. I found another great dentist who did the crown and some little chips for $750. Dr. Usinger is way too expensive!
