Read Reviews for Dr. Merrill Russell
I may have chosen Dr. Russell initially simply because we have the same last name, but he turned out to be best dentist I've ever had! Dr. Russell and his hygenist (his wife Linda) are super nice and very easy going. I had not been for a check up in 7 years and although I did end up having one cavity, I was never made to feel that I was a bad patient for doing so. Both Dr. Russell and Linda are very personable and take time to ask you about yourself and of course if you have any dental concerns. Dr. Russell recommended that I have the tooth with the cavity pulled (by a dental surgeon) since it was in a hard to reach spot on my wisdom tooth. I was nervous about doing so and Linda made me feel better by letting me know that the referred Dr. has worked on themselves as well as their children.

Merrill Russell is a knowledgeable, friendly and personalbe, and very competent dentist with a great chair-side manner. His pain management approach is very patient conscious, and I swear, every time I've needed a shot of novacaine, he appologizes for the little "stick"! I've never had another dentist do that! He gives you a folded paper towel as a "worry blanket" at the beginning of each appointment, which I think is a very smart thing to do, because it give you something to do with your hands other than gouge divits in the armrests. : ) His costs for bi-annual cleaning and xrays are always within the allowed costs for my insurance. Finally, at the end of your appointment, he gives you a new toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste... I've never had another dentist that does that, either.
He's located conveniently in central Austin, and if you're at UT or St. David's Hospital, you can't go wrong going to Dr. Russell, but I'd drive across town to keep seeing him.

I feel very comfortable with Dr. Russell. He takes his time and explains everything to me so that I can understand. I have had many cleanings and fillings and one or two crowns, and all of the procedures have been comfortable with no need for a follow-up visit. He is almost always on time, and I can usually get an appointment with only a few days' or a week's notice. The only negative thing I would say is that the facilities are showing a little age, but not in a way that affects the quality of the service or the comfortable atmosphere. The dental hygienist is also very nice and provides helpful information about home dental care.

Nice and easy to talk to. Seems knowledgeable. Office is a converted house on Red River. Didn't seem to be many other patients the times I've been there. No gimmicks, just straightforward dental care.

I chose from an insurance directory and had a routine cleaning and exam. Very easy to talk to. Made me feel comfortable asking questions. Plus, the office resembled an art gallery.
