I initially felt very happy to find this dentist. He did some crown work, bonding repair, etc. that was done quite well. Once the financial "crash" came in 2008, his demeanor changed. He began to aggressively steer me towards very extensive and expensive repair work....often on teeth I was having no problems whatsover with. He has suggested treatment that when I obtained a second opinion, he backed right off of and basically accused me of "not hearing him correctly", that he actually never suggested what I told the other DDS. I don't know about you, but I need a dentist I can rely on and trust. This gentleman, while good at his actual skills, is quite arrogant and difficult to disagree with at times---not always, but of late, it's "his way or the highway" so to speak. I am looking elsewhere for a dentist I can feel confident about. Too bad, I really liked him at first. I hate to say it, but it now seems like he's got dollar signs for eyes. Another red flag is his constantly changing office staff---they don't hang around for long!

Dr. Fong is one of the best dentists I've ever had. He's always responsive and informative. He never pushes treatment and always explains the pros and cons of any procedure.
Through numerous treatments and check-ups I've always felt calm and confident that I was getting the best advice possible. The office staff always provides information abouts costs upfront and they have never exceeded the cost estimates.
I recommend them to anyone looking for a dentist.

I will not go anywhere else. It's like home. I love the music and the atmosphere. I actually look forward to my appointmentss every 6 months. Elizabeth is the best hygienist, and I have had a few!

Extremely expensive. Went in to fill a missing filling and this dentist found a tiny bit of decay in an x-ray of a tooth on the other side of my mouth--where I was experiencing no problems or pain at all. Before I knew it I had to have a root canal and the tooth that I originally went in for had not even been addressed before all of my insurance was maxed out. They scwabbled durring my examination when I was numbed up about how to bill me, and tried to get my credit card durring exam to open a new credit card account so that I could pay the dental office in full that day, before service was even complete. The Hygenist was ROUGH on my gums when cleaning and not sensitive to my needs at all. The whole feeling in this office is everyone is trying to be a rock star (except Fong's assistant who was the only one I could relax with and was quite professional). The music is loud and unnerving. When I said I rather wear my iPod he said he needed to ask me question while drilling. In all of my visits I was never offered to RINSE MY MOUTH (maybe because they do not have sinks near the chairs.)
Extremely dissatisfied, way too expensive, and uncomfortable.

Dr. Fong (at Rockridge Dental) is the best dentist I've ever gone to. Both he and his staff (including his wonderful hygienist, Elizabeth) are courteous, comforting, and knowledgeable. His hygienist explained things to me about my teeth I'd never known, but which made my dental care much more effective. Dr. Fong and his staff use the latest technology and materials, including a completely painless filling of cavities. If he wasn't so expensive, he'd be the best dentist ever.

Dr. Fong and his staff are all nice enough and the place is clean. However, he recommend I have over $2000 worth of procedures done. I had gone to dentist regularly every 6 months so I was a little surprised by his estimate of all my cavities, etc. I didn't actually have any of the services he recommended and instead went to another dentist to get a second opinion and he said I had one cavity and that I could even take a wait and see approach if I wanted. Several years later I haven't had any problems.

I've had the same DDS for 30 yrs, so going to a "new guy"
was scary. His office is very pleasant and fun to be in, taking
alot of the usual "dental angst" out of the picture. I have had two crowns and a cavity filled in the last few months. Dr. Fong is
very good with the needle---no pain on injection or during procedure. I've had some trouble getting timely appts, but
they assure me if I was in pain or it was an emergency, I
would be given priority. The office staff are dear people to
deal with---worth their weight in gold. He does seem a bit
on the expensive side, but maybe he is in the ballpark, I'm
could be wrong about that. All-in-all, this is a very laid-back,
fun and efficient office---with great music (NOT "musak") and a competent DDS at the helm. One could do ALOT
worse!! Believe me, I've tried my share hunting for a new DDS.

Me and my wife both used Dr. Fong and have had nothing go smoothly with this dentist besides billing. He left a gap in a filling for my wife which caused many complications, in fact he tried to say it was her fault. For myself he needed to give me 6 shots to numb a small area of my mouth for a filling over the course of an hour. Ive never had problems with a dentist like this. Maybe I've had really good dentists in the past but this guy is the worst dentist I've ever seen. I never right reviews but felt compelled to with this guy so others can be spared.

Very nice office and very accomodating
and pleasant staff. There is a feeling
of comfort and security here---not
common in a dental office. This
DDS does not do root canals---you
are referred to Contra Costa County
to an associate for this. However,
this is otherwise a good place for
basic dental care.
