To those seeking to establish dental care in the Hyde Park / Lincoln Park neighbourhood:
I cannot recommend University Dental Professionals in Hyde Park based on the following experience. I came Dr. Grahams office because it was convenient, located near the University of Chicago, where I was training as a resident physician. My lower teeth were becoming significantly crowded, and I was given the choice between either having several of them removed or starting the Invisalign system of invisible braces. I choose Invisalgn, at the cost of $4,000, out of pocket. Through out the course of the treatment, the dentist and the staff referred to the trays as Invisalign and I was given no reason to doubt the authenticity of their claim. After the completion of the treatment, I was then issued a permanent retainer, for which I was forced to pay $400, a fee never mentioned when I originally agreed to the braces. Several months later, the retainer cracked, so I sought the advice of an Invisalign premier provider, who indicated, to my chagrin, that not only was the retainer not an Invisalign, but that I required another 4-6 months of braces, at the cost of an additional $600. Other Invisalign providers, and Align Technologies, have verified that what I was led to believe was an Invisalign treatment was not indeed Invisalign.
I have attempted to contact Dr. Lou Graham at University Dental Professionals repeatedly and seek out an explanation, but he has never replied to my inquiries. I am therefore initiating a law suit, charging University Dental Professionals with fraud and breach of contract, and am notifying the Illinois States Attorney Generals Consumer Protection division, the city of Chicagos office of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection, the Illinois Board of Professional and Financial Regulation, as well as the state of Illinois Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
I will periodically update this review as the consumer protection agencies investigate and the court weighs in on the charge and delivers a verdict. If you have any questions or concerns regarding my experience, please make note below, and I will be glad to elaborate.

I was very happy when I took my daughter to Dr. Graham because her permanent tooth was broken in an accident. His manner was immediately calming and he really helped us out.

Very sharp guy. Nice style with patients; explains and answers questions. Teaches and keeps up-to-date on trends in dentistry. Uses a conservative approach. Knows how to ease your fears. A pleasure to deal with him AND his staff.
