I tried to find an in network dentist close to work in Somerville, so I went to see Dr. Ambarik's office. He no longer runs the office himself, and the current staff seems somewhat misled by a management staff that is useless. I went in for three appointments where they tried to take x-rays I already had done. Furthermore, I saw two different dentists and the second one on the follow-up visit wasn't even going to do the scheduled cleaning, which was the entire purpose of the visit. She thought it was a consult for wisdom teeth removal, which happened during the first visit. I also visited a second office in Cambridge where I was assured I would have a consult and wisdom tooth removal the same day. Thus both my fiancee and myself took half the day off work only to find that when I got there that was not all the doctor's intention. They took more X-rays and then the "specialized dentist" said that she didn't feel comfortable doing the surgery anyway. Of course, they still billed my insurance for the x-rays and consult that day, and my fiancee needlessly missed half a day of work. When I confronted the doctor about it she brushed it off. In general this is a very poorly run practice, though most of the staff is kind and capable.

I have been a patient of Dr. Ambarik's for nine months. To date, he has not introduced himself to me, nor has he ever looked in my mouth during any of my three appointments. The hygenist, Eileen, is very competent and friendly. However, I don't think that this is an adequate substitute for dentist-patient interaction.
My experience with two other dentists (in 20 yrs) has always been an friendly introduction, a look in my mouth, and a look at my X-rays. This has not been my experience at Dr. Ambarik's office.
The facilities are fine and hygenic. While his office is easy to find, with reasonable parking nearby, it is without any ammentities. No sample tooshbrush or floss.
I have decided to leave this dentist for another dentist in Brookline. It's worth the extra travel time to have a dentist who will know me. I am making this decision because I need to have a crown made, and want a dentist I can feel comfortable talking to.
If all you want to do is get a cleaning, then make an appointment here. The hygenist does a very good job.

I am not going back to this place. First of all I wasn't seen for 2 hours after my scheduled appt. At my new patient appt. Dr. Ambarik didn't even introduce himself and after a tiny filling I had incredible pain in my gums. He'd either hit a nerve or bruised something when administering the Novocain. I couldn't even open my mouth my jaw hurt so badly, I went back 2 days later, waited 2 hours to be seen and he told me to take some ibuprophen. Also, the woman taking my x-ray wore gloves, but coughed into them before she put her fingers and the x-ray slides in my mouth. Comparing this experience to my 25 years of experience with other dentists, I found this office to be unprofessional and unsanitary.

Visit was unexceptional--price seemed par for the market, waiting room/exam room were unexciting but not dirty, interactions with assistants were not memorable. Dr. Ambarik's smoker's breath so close to my face while he was examining me made me decide not to go back.

I like Dr. Ambarik well enough--his work is fine, although he doesn't communicate very clearly what he's going to do and present options (such as alloy vs. a more expensive option). However, the hygienist is the best!
