I just had an appointment there for a crown and found them a bit icky.
They participate in my dental plan (UFT), but didn't want to do the procedure for the scheduled copay ($150). They wanted to charge me about $800-$900 for a precious metal crown, which they said wasn't covered by my insurance. When I asked for a more basic crown that was covered, they refused to do it. I called several other participating dentists in Manhattan, and they all said they would do the covered procedure, no problem

I have been a patient with Dr. Berman’s office for over 10 years and have been very happy with the quality of the care from the doctor’s and the help the girls at the front provide. I’ve had several insurances through the years and they’ve always helped me to understand the way my insurance works. I highly recommend this office.
About Front Desk: Susan and Devory are very pleasant and knowledgeable.

If you care about getting comprehensive dental, periodontal and oral care, do not go near Dr. Berman's office.
I was referred to Dr. Berman and after the first visit, the office tried to have another less experienced dentist do the exam and I had to firmly request that I wanted to see Dr. Berman only. Over the last 2 years, I never once saw the doctor – the hygienist examined and cleaned my teeth. After I found a new dentist, I learned that I only had a set of “bitewings” x-rays done. Even though my insurance company told me that I am allowed a full “panoramic” set of x-rays of my mouth, in 5 years, Dr. Berman’s office only took x-rays of my bitewings. I just went to a new dentist who did a periodontal mapping to look for gum issues which I never had done at Dr. Berman’s. He also checked my entire mouth and tongue for oral cancer. Dr. Berman did that my first visit – never again – and his hygienist certainly never did periodontal mapping or checking for oral cancer.
The office must be losing business because the pressure to confirm a new appointment at the end of every cleaning was unbelieveable & they made appointments and then called me to confirm in 24 hours or less!!

I have been here 5 times in the last few years and have been seen by Dr. Berman himself only twice. The office is incredibly cramp but as it was close to my work I continued to visit. I had no problems with general cleanings and a cavity filling but when I later went in for gum pain I was unable to see him directly and before I was clearly told what the actual problem was their insurance woman came in and began to aggressively tell me about payment options(which was a couple thousand) and that if I paid now that I would be able to get some of the surgery done then and there! WHOA! I asked to see the doctor seeing me again as she basically told me I needed a whole mouth gum surgery. I asked him if this was necessary and he said they could do a deep cleaning before a surgical step. They gave me a very brief cleaning and I never went back. I also looked up the procedure they recommended for me and it is done in the most severe cases of gum disease and should have offered a few other steps before. A few months later the same woman called me to see if I wanted to follow up with them. I have since switched dentists.

As far as Dr. Berman, after going in the office three times I've never even met the guy as he has the hygenist doing all of the work. During my first routine cleaning, the hygenist told me that I needed to come back and see the Periodontist because she noticed something suspect in my gums. I made an appointment and met with Dr. Leder who works in Dr. Berman's office. Without taking any X-rays, he looked at my mouth and told me that I needed surgery which would cost $600. He offered to perform the surgery on the spot and when I asked questions to get more detail he brought in one of the women from the front desk who told me "This is very common." I've never had any problems with my gums so I was suspicious and decided to get a second opinion. The new Periodontist that I went to said I definitely did not need surgery and said he was dissapointed that someone like Dr. Leder would put ethics aside to try and profit from unnecessary surgery. In conclusion - BEWARE of Dr. Berman and his staff

Horrible! Stay away - the Office Manager is a Monster. I recently had Periodontal work performed and I am bruised, my face is swollen! I cannot eat, couldn't sleep, pain meds didn't help. My husband called the Dr. who told him it was normal for me to feel feverish and have chills, and told him to tell me to get lots of rest! When I told this to the Manager, Susan, she said in the 11 years she has worked there, she has NEVER heard of this with any other patient!....I find it a bit incredulous, especially since I looked the post surgery instructions on line and literally every Dr. has them all listed! Also, very disappointed in the Periodontist for not explaining in-depth what I could expect!

I've had two dentists for the most part in my life, one from childhood until he retired and the other has been Dr. Breman during my adult. Dr. Berman and his staff will work with you and your insurance to your benefit not necessarily theirs. While office is a bit cramped, it is efficient and all staff is pleasant . Dr. Berman moves you in and out fast but you hardly notice and at the end of the day who wants to spend hours at a dentist office. My wife spends 3 hours or more sometimes at her dentist office, heck there have been years where I've barely spent 3 hours and this included work. I definitely recommend him.
One thing to note is that nearly all of the hygiensts and front office staff have been there for many years, most doctors and dentists have a high turnover, this office has almost no turnover, which should tell something about the operation.
