Read Reviews for Dr. Michael Gerhards
I have gone to Dr Gerhards since the mid 80's, probably not as frequently as I should, but I believe Dr Gerhards does a great job and his support staff is beyond helpful... I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to dental work and they do a wonderful job calming my nerves and making me feel at ease. Dr Gerhards has done to root canals for me and they truly were not as bad as I thought they would be and I think that has a lot to do with the Doctor...

I have had many issues with dentists throughout my life. I have problematic teeth, so I really need someone who knows what they're doing and is up front and honest with cost. I was referred to Dr. Gerhards in 2007, and have never been happier. Dr. Gerhards and his assistant, Sally, are two of the greatest people I've had the pleasure of doing business with. They tell me how much my bill will be before they do any procedures (which is never an unreasonable price), they are always very courteous and patient, and are willing to work with me on anything I need. Hands down this is the best dental office in Portland!

My wife and I are very happy with Dr Gerhards professional abilities and his caring manner. We have had crowns, fillings, etc. My wife also had a permanent bridge done of which we are very satisfied.. Would recommend him to anyone.
About Hygienist: Tiffany is great. She knows what she's doing and does it in a efficent and friendly manner.

I can't say enough about Dr. Gerhards staff and how nice they are. As it is, I probably had too many fillings done at one time and the pain has never gone away. I am going on to a different dentist in the hopes that they can fix whatever is wrong with my mouth at the moment.

I was surprised that both the hygienist and dentist assumed my inflamed gums were NOT due to my pregnancy, and also were frustrated by my refusing x-rays for the same reason. Once I was no longer pregnant my gums were fine, and x-rays harm fetuses. I would hope that they would be better informed. They were nice, but a little over-assertive.

I went in needing to have an old filling replaced. In the process of doing so, my tooth chipped. I decided to have a crown put on as a filling would likely not stick for long. While drilling for the crown, he apparently drilled too low, necessitating a root canal. He prescribed an antibiotic which is not first line treatment, at the wrong dose, for the infection. While getting a second opinion, I learned that he misread the xray of my tooth - the one that he used to verify the need for a root canal. He also drilled into the old mercury filling without first placing a dental dam. My understanding is that dental dams are used routinely to help prevent swallowing the mercury-filled dust that the driiling creates.
So although everyone at the office was very kind to me and the multitude of procedures I had were not painful, he inspired zero confidence. He didn't offer to drop the charges on the root canal, which I felt was clearly his fault. He seemed to be filled with out of date and incorrect information. And Im not sure he knows how to read xrays.

I did not like his bedside manner. I was a little creeped out overall. The staff seemed a little Stepford-ish. I will say that he seems to use state of the art equipment . I did not like the hard-sell of dental services. It is presented as a "plan" for future dental work but I did feel a little like I was in a car dealership.
