I had three replacements of old fillings over several years. Dentist Joseph F. Newell replaced old silver colored molar fillings with dental gold, which he is an expert in. In fact he trains dental students at dental schools. He patiently explained more options that any other dentist I have had. These gold fillings are more bio-compatible, non-toxic and DURABLE than the better known alternatives. I have had friends get childhood fillings replaced, only to begin the replacement process over in 10 years. Thankfully, gold fillings can quite possibly outlast me. The older I get, the less amenable I am to having unnecessary dental work done and gold fillings and crowns are an effective solution. And they were not as expensive as I had feared.
About Hygienist: Dr. Joseph Newell was very gentle, and the process surprisingly painless ... even the initial novacaine shot was painless. both his Huntingdon Valley and Philadelphia offices are immaculately clean, comfortable atmosphere and staff is very friendly.

Dr. Joe Newell replaced two old fillings for me. I was very impressed and appreciative for many reasons:
-- His manner was extremely gentle and painless.
-- He fully explained my treatment options (turns out he trains dentists in the local dental schools! . . . now University of Pennsylvania and previously Temple University). With my engineering background I loved that he patiently explained "why" as well as "what" my alternatives were..
-- He has very convenient flexible office hours so I did not need to take off from work.
-- His prices were less than my previous dentist quoted for similar work.
I now have new rear fillings that I should not need to replace ever again, which is much better than the prediction of my previous dentist whose method would last an average of only 10 years. I get a kick out of Dr. Newell's promise of his "Retirement Plan for Teeth."
-- Finally, in his gold dentistry specialty, Dr. Joe Newell is a regular participant among the leading national study groups that promote the most progressive gold dentistry methods. His continuing education gives me great confidence in his advice about treatment choices, including when/if gold dental work is appropriate and within the "invisible" aesthetic range.
