Dr. Thoben is a professional! He explains procedures and cost. He is willing to listen and be attentive to your stress, anxiety, pain and works diligently problem solving to make sure your dental care is successful. He is funny, smart, and makes one feel at ease when you are in the dental chair. No worries with Dr. Thoben, he is outstanding!
About Front Desk: She is helpful with keeping everything organized. She is very knoweldgable about insurance and your personal care. She will be very patient with your insurance company and assists with answers to your questions.
About Hygienist: His hygienist is cool, helpful, gentle, and knowledgable! Especially about Washington, DC hang outs! He likes to keep the patient comfortable during the visit with they hygienist. Enjoy chatting with him when get an opportunity to that!

I've had two crowns, several filings, continued care for ten years now in his Washington, DC office.
He is very thorough and communicates his procedures clearly.
The office staff calls and reminds me of my six month appointments.
I would definitely recommend this dentist to others.
I would not have stayed if I didn't like his work or his staff.
There are lots of Dentists to choose in this area!
The hygienist are excellent are humourus...and into sports!

Dr. Thoben was friendly, though not the best dentist I've had. He did multiple fillings for me over the past year. On one occasion he bonded a metal ring to my tooth while doing a filling which took a long time for him to get off by drilling away at it. He also twice dropped small tools into my mouth while working, "Don't swallow! Let me grab that!".
I found it annoying that on two other occasions he stopped drilling to answer the phone because nobody was at reception to take calls.
The end result of the work was 'OK' but not great, and the service really wasn't good.
About Hygienist: The hygienists were friendly and did a nice job cleaning.

Overall all I am very dissatisfied. I had a dental cleaning, and two fillings filled in 9/06. I chose to have my services performed by Dr. Thoben, because he was, so I thought, in network. Before having the services performed I asked the receptionist to confirm that Dr. Thoben accepted my insurance, and that he was within my dental network. This was not done...the services were performed, and I ended up paying $883.00. On top of that, the fillings lasted less than a year, and when I called to see whether Dr. Thoben would replace them for free, I was told it would cost me $246. Dr. Thoben has a great chair-side manner, but cost, customer service and the stress and anxiety experienced, were poor -- and high, respectively. In addition, in filling my fillings Dr, Thoben created some gapping between my teeth - that was not there before. I was told that these gaps would close - 15 months later, they are still not closed.

Dr. Thoben has very nice support staff who took the time to explain all the charges to me. His office is located in the basement of a downtown office building, a bit dark and dreary if office environment matters to you. At the time of my visit, I had switched dental plans and was looking for a new dentist. I didn't get the feeling that Dr. Thoben welcomed my questions, and ultimately decided that I'd rather find a different dentist. Absolutely nothing wrong with my visit, I was simply looking for a new dentist and decided Thoben wasn't the right one for me.

THis was the worst experience I have ever had... Very unpleasant 4 trips to get a crown removed. Hard to get ahold of... very unsatisfied

When I broke my teeth in a sports accident I called Dr. Thoben at home on a Sunday evening and he offered to see me first thing Monday morning. My front teeth crowns look fabulous and I get compliments on my smile all the time now. He matched the color and shape perfectly. His friendly staff make visiting his office pleasant. I highly recommend Dr. Thoben.
P.S. I go to his DC office.
