Whole family dental cleaning. The staff was great with young children (6 and 3). I had several cleanings and a teeth whitening done. Love this office!

Dr. Shaw is fun, funny, charismatic and technically competent. However, the office culture suffers a bit of a superiority complex. Prices are far above what is considered reasonable for the Tacoma/UP area. I recently called to get a quote for a filling. Unemployed, I am on a very tight budget and did not want to commit to a bill I could not afford to pay. The office assistant was pleasant and told me that they had quoted this filling replacement at $185 a few years ago, so she expected it would be a bit more than that original quote. I made an appointment and budgeted $250. After getting into the chair and getting an x-ray, I was advised the cost would be $360 (with a discount for cash - which turned out to be $17). At that point, I had already waited a week, had accrued the expense of the X-ray and examination, and did not feel it would serve me well to pay for that and look elsewhere. Dr. Shaw made a rather caustic (he would probably rather describe it as good humored sarcasm) comment about my willingness to accept the service without a discussion of cost, which made me feel cheap and difficult, rather than fiscally responsible with my budget. My family has decided to no longer have our dentistry done at Dr. Shaw's.
About Hygienist: Our family has been with this Dentist for many years and have always felt shamed and humiliated after a cleaning from just about any of the hygienests. They seem to build their practice using fear and guilt rather than true concern about our dental health.

The best place for Dental work and the staff is great! I have been a patient for over ten years. My duaghters 11 and 6 have only gone to him as well. Even the ex-wife still goes to his office.
