Read Reviews for Dr. Helen Rivera
Dr. Helen creates a totally relaxing atmosphere and is very calming. This is probably the most relaxed dentist and office I have ever visited. Billing is easy- she didn't even request a co-pay...and she has a great chair-side manner. She is the only person in her 18th st office, so there isn't anyone at the desk or answering the phone if she is with a patient. Not a big deal- but you just need to give 24 hour cancellation notice, and if you leave a message and ask her to return your call- because she is only in this office 3 times a week, you might have to wait a few days to set up an appointment.
About Hygienist: There is no hygienist- Dr. Rivera does it all!

Dr. Rivera is great at focusing on the positive, calming the patient and using a precautionary approach when it comes to drilling in peoples mouths. I would recommend her to all my friends!

I have to agree with the previous poster. I went to Dr. Rivera because it was close to work and she seemed to have open appointment slots. Now I know why. The office seemed dirty and cheap, and I thought the cleaning and subsequent cavity filling were incredibly painful. When I complained about the pain, the dentist told me to "stare at the plastic spinning toy, and it wouldn't hurt so bad."
I have warned friends about this office, and would not recommend it to anyone.

I went here last year and finally decided to give a review. The entire office seemed very dirty and was cheaply decorated. A dentist office is expected to be clean, bright, and usually white, but this one was totally opposite. I experienced pain for my procedure that should have been painless. She seemed "stingy" with the novacaine and didn't want to use enough, even though I have good insurance. The tools even seemed old and dirty. She is not a delicate and sensitive dentist!
Maybe cleanings are ok like the 2 other posters mentioned, but I would tell my friends to stay away from this place. I was new to the area and chose this dentist based ONLY on the previous posters. I don't know how they missed the things I saw. If they think her place is acceptable, I think they need to check out a new dentist...sorry for being so negative, but this is all the truth.

I went in for a regular cleaning, and was happy with Dr. Rivera. I liked that she cleaned my teeth herself, rather than having a hygienist do it, and she did a very good job. She also took the time to carefully explain things and answer my questions. I also appreciated that she did not do or recommend unnecessary procedures. The office is not fancy, but I would rather feel I can trust that my dentist is not bilking me for extra money than go to a swanky office. I would definitely recommend Dr. Rivera.

The office is very small, and Dr. Rivera, rather than a dental hygenist, usually does my teeth cleanings. She is very cost-concious -- doesn't do a lot of unnecessary x-rays and so forth, even though I have good dental insurance. And she did not recommend I get my wisdom teeth out, bc they weren't really endangering my other teeth. I eventually got them out anyway, though, bc one was bothering me. I decribe her to my friends as a good "budget" dentist. There are probably nicer places in the area, but this office is personal and seems to do a good enough job.
