After our current orthodontist closed her practice, my son needed a new one. We saw Dr Gile second (of four orthos interviewed) for an assessment and consultation. He was a bit arrogant at the first visit (dismissing our previous ortho's abilities because she didn't attend UW, etc) and his fees were high, but I thought he would do a good job on my son's teeth. At the second appt, at which we needed to sign his contract, he was so utterly condescending and paternalistic (he was impatient with our questions and replied by asking if we had difficulty understanding millimeters) that we ended the process immediately. We were never asked why we so suddenly left- evidently he doesn't care. None of the other (3) orthos we interviewed charged for assessment or consultation and their total treatment costs were much less. Only Dr Gile billed us for his consultation.
Dr Gile should be reminded that he is a dental specialist largely hired by parents to provide an elective service on their children's teeth. Orthodontia is not exactly a life-saving procedure- no one ever died from crooked teeth. The only bright spot? His receptionist, Stella, is wonderful- polite, considerate and friendly.
