Not suited to work on children of any age!
(Please read this entire review and others)
We chose Dr. Bruce Baker because he was a pediatric dentist and felt he would better meet the needs of young children over a dentist who mainly works with adults. However, we should have done our homework and researched him prior to bringing our kids in for care and we would have seen the many consistent, negative reviews regarding his poor “chair-side manner.”
He demonstrated very little patience with both my kids barking off demands like “sit still, open your mouth, stay open, WIDER!!” Ironically, he treats his staff with very much the same dictator like demeanor. You never hear a please or thank you from him, just a list of orders and you better comply.
On this particular visit, my 14 year old son was due for 6 sealants and a small cavity to be filled. I brought him in and was told it would take 45 minutes to complete the appointment and that I would be called when he was finished. To my surprise, 19 minutes later, I was called and told to come pick him up! I was shocked that that amount of work could be done that quickly so I asked the receptionist if I could meet with Dr. Baker when I arrived to discuss his work.
Upon my arrival, we were ushered back to a room and Dr. Baker immediately went on the defensive with me and did not like any of my questions. I told him I worked as a dental assistant for several years and helped in the application of sealants and to be done well, one needs at least 3-5 minutes per tooth from start to finish.
He then informed me that he did 8, not 6 as the receptionist told me upon check in, but 8 sealants and a cavity in under 20 minutes!!!! Now unless he has superhuman powers, I was left wondering if they were done as thoroughly as they could have been as that equates to less than 2 minutes per tooth and about 4 minutes for the cavity filling from start to finish as well (including the numbing injection!) He quickly informed me that if I didn’t trust him, I should leave and not come back again! So, I took my son, asked for the medical records for both my kids and told them we would not be returning. The front desk staff didn’t even flinch! No questions asked like why might you be leaving, nothing! So, I’m led to believe, it’s not an uncommon occurrence there.
Please, please, as a former dental assistant who knows a bit about dental procedures, do your research and choose wisely for your child. There are many pediatric dentists out there and they are NOT all equal! Dr. Baker should not be working with children as he has little tolerance for them or their parents. In addition, he should realize that parents have every right to ask questions regarding their children’s medical care and instead of going on the defensive, he should strive to answer their questions instead of replying with threats that if you’re not happy, you should just leave!
