Dr Stevenson's office is on the EastSide is large and is merely adequate as a dentist. Let me make this clear. They are fine, it wasn't the worst thing in the world, but I didn't LOVE them, and would never be quoted as saying they are GREAT. My biggest complaint was the "cattle call" mentality I was subjected to while there.
At our check up we arrived early and were kept waiting 45 minutes. My two sons got to go in together, and we all sat on one chair, while they were inspected, brushed and polished. When the dentist finally entered the room, he started at one end and inspected all 5 patients in turn. he spent no more than several seconds at each chair. He picked up the mirror tool for only a couple of children
He never made eye contact with me, did not introduce himself, and when they nurse introduced him, he said nothing to me or to my children.
But when I gathered my bill (insurance covered the whole cost), I saw a $54 charge that was itemized as a comprehensive examination performed by Dr. Stevenson (Really?!)
You are allowed to accompany your children into the large, sunny and clean group room where check-ups are performed by no fewer than 8 hygienists/assistants. however, while I was there a child no older than 3 was returned to her mother after a filling with the nurse stating, she did great once we got her down. (what does that mean?)
And there is one form that outlines the discipline practices that the office uses and you are required to read these and sign your acceptance of their terms. I think you are allowed to cross items off the list, but I was appalled that the second item on the list described a method where the Dentist would place their hands over the mouth of a loud/screaming/crying child and leave them there until the child quieted down.
I went here because this was the only pediatric dentist in town that accepted my insurance. There was another in Las Cruces. I will be trying them in 6 months, but my husband has already told me that it may be worth going out of program to have a better experience with a dentist.
