Dr. Drury has treated my periodontitis and implanted tooth #15. The former required Scaling & Root Planing (Code 4341) of 4 quadrants, Osseous Surgery (Code 4260) of 2 quadrants, a Distal Wedge (Code 4230), yearly Perio Oral Exams (Code 120), and Perio Maintenance Cleanings (Code 4910) 2 times/Yr thereafter. The 4341, 4260, 4230, 120, and the first two 4910s were mostly covered by Cigna provided by my employer.
The implant was not covered and the price was competitive for the area (around $3,000), and was done carefully (CAT scan & bone graft to avoid entering sinus cavity.)
The fee for Perio Cleanings increased every year, and reached $136 (after payment-at-time-of-service discount) by August 2006. These included plaque scoring and a no-addition-fee fluoride treatment. According to Aetna Navigator at that time, the area in-network fee for 4910 averaged $69 and the area out-of-network fee averaged $117. Dr. Drury declined to lower his fee if the fluoride treatment was omitted. Dr. Drury recommended four cleanings per year but accepted that two be standard (Code 1110) done elsewhere.
The initial procedures were very painfull after the anesthetic wore off. The Perio exams were uncomfortable and too rappid. The Perio Cleanings, performed by a hygienist, were also uncomfortable.
