I highly recommend Dr. Thomas. What impressed me most was the way he explained the procedure--both in person and in writing--and explained the pros and cons of all options. His concern was with long-term health, not with doing as many (expensive) procedures as possible, and he warned me off some procedures that other oral surgeons had recommended. He's friendly and human, as well as competent and professional. I recommend him highly.
