I received a recommendation from a colleague to go to Dr. Siu. I've had a number of dental issues in the past and it had been several years since I had dental insurance and the ability to go for regular check-ups. Dr. Siu initially put my mind at ease and after doing a set of x-rays, decided that there were no issues with regard to cavities or caries. He insisted that grinding my teeth was the source of any problems past or future, and I had a mouth guard made. About 6 weeks later, I started to develop a very painful tooth ache and went in to see him. Again, he assured me that it wasn't from a cavity and simply from grinding. He recommended Tylenol. I decided I wanted a 2nd opinion and went to my childhood dentist in NJ, who took a blown-up x-ray which showed 2 cavities in the tooth that had inflamed the nerve, and a huge abscess above the tooth which was breeding bacteria and causing the tremendous pain. This required antibiotics and I had to arrange for an emergency root canal that week. Had Dr. Siu done the appropriate diagnostics, both at the first appointment and when I came back with tooth pain, I would not be in this situation. He may seem laid back and relaxed, but in my case it came at the expense of being a good dentist.
