Years ago, I visited several orthodontists and was told that my oldest daughter needed a halo for her protruding lower jaw, something that would cost thousands of dollars (and then braces with elastics, and then maybe jaw surgery). My niece who had the same problem, went to another orthodontist, and, several years and $7k later, she still has a protruding lower jaw. On advise from a friend who is a prosthodontist, I went to Mariani. He recommended a $300 tongue appliance. I thought he was some kind of quack, but my friend told me that with my daughter being 8 years old, I could always go back to the other orthodontists for the halo if this didn't work. Within weeks with this tongue appliance, my daughter's protruding lower jaw was moving back in place. He correctly diagnosed the tongue and not the jaw as the problem. The appliance was in place for two years, was removed two years ago and the jaw is still in place. My pediatrician (Dr. Miller, Pediatric Professionals) was so impressed, she now recommends him. He runs a very busy office, and getting an appointment is a pain (bring a good book), but he is not looking to make the most money--he is looking to correct the problem. I recommend him to everyone.
